Hi Guys

We can confirm that our best selling aftermarket VGA cooler is compatible with the new cards.

This cooler offers massive cooling potential and improves capability for overclocking.

The main reason to go for an MK-26 cooler is the option to use quiet fans on the cooler which drastically reduces the noise output.

Whilst stock coolers are the only option on cards currently, the MK-26 is an ideal choice.

If you truly wanna shift these heatsinks/coolers, get Gibbo or 8 Packs to do some benches and overclock with one of these and see how high they can push the overclock :p

Could you take a few pics of the stock heatsink detached and show a pic of all the heatsinks attached(before the main cooler).

I remember issues with 7970(or maybe 6970? it seems ages ago I just can't remember how long ago :p ) heatsinks, the AC ones IIRC that people were using and didn't realise there was an extra chip that needed cooling and a few cards died. From the pics I saw a while ago of a 290x it looked like there was one extra chip that needed cooling or at least had some frag tape on, but sometimes it's there as an insulator rather than cooling.

AFAIK prolimatech aren't officially stating support for the 290-x on the cooler?

EDIT:- shame, they've done away with the fan bracket and gone with the extra weight all attached to the heatsink/card instead. While it's easier, the fan bracket was a much "safer" way to go about it. For such an expensive cooler it would be nice to have the clips and the bracket so you can choose.

That's why its a little more expensive. Prolimatech supply some small heatsinks that fit in the section of the card that you are talking about. I have pics on my phone and will upload them tomorrow for you.

The alpenfohen ram sinks are much much better than the stock prolimatech so we use them.

The pics will explain it better than I can.

Right then

Some more information here to answer drunkenmasters questions and hopefully explain a little more about the setup on this card.

this is the board layout and shows where the heatsinks go and what heatsink from which kit we are using.

this is the configuration used on the retention plate:
we use the smaller rubber standoff and the thicker plastic washers to ensure a secure mount. also use the silver screws not the black nickel ones as they are for GTX680s.
IMG_20131024_173619.jpg

this picture shows the rubber underneath the backplate and the mounting method as well as the half height heatsinks next to the heatpipes from the cooler.
IMG_20131024_173633.jpg

finally, this image shows how thick the card is with the cooler and a 25mm thick fan installed. it takes up 4 PCIE slots

:( Ah well, at least you tried... I thought that it'd have the clearance.
it has the clearance, but the screw holes on the 290 are wider than the screw holes on the 7970 so it doesnt fit.
i reckon if you drilled it and tapped it you could potentially make it fit yourself as it is a fairly hench heatsink.

He didn't cut them. They come in the Alpenfohn kit :) Check out the pic in my spoiler.

confirmed, they are standard in the Alpenfohn kit.

we have a new shipment of coolers arriving next week to coincide with the next shipment of 290x and maybe 'other cards'. Get pre orders in now.

fans are up to you. some people want performance, some want silence.

we cant please everyone as there are so many options.
