Pronunciation of forum

When I met up in Brighton with the OcUK mob I heard people pronouncing the word "forum" in a way that I had never experienced.

I have always pronounced it [fawr-uhm]

I head others using [fohr-uhm]

Upon checking our the web it appears both are correct. I don't know is it a / [non u] thing? Is it an American thing?

Even on the radio they've said it as for-rum, and that's how I've always said it too.

Heck even the Americans say it that way.

Yes my accent is a bit of a mess. Born in London, educated the expensive way* and then lived in Ireland for 15 years or so. I will manage to merge "pip pip tally ho" and wurzel into the same sentence.
