Proof for Metro 2033/Crysis being 'really badly coded'?

I don't know how anyone can say that Metro 2033 looks anything other than amazing.

This is very true. We need far more powerful graphics hardware to run the same games as the outdated consoles, often having to upgrade to play the exact same games with almost identical graphics - with a few exceptions (Capcom are awesome at porting games)

That's because console dev's have been working on the same hardware for 5 years. After a while they get to learn everything about the system, and become much more efficient at programming their games. People that develop for PC's are constantly having to learn new versions of DX, how to take advantage of multi-threaded CPU's, etc etc.

I dont agree with that, only bad devs make bad ports, BC2, Just Cause 2 and Batman AA are all fine examples of multi platform games which look and run superior on the PC compared to the console counterparts

Theres no excuse for games like Black Ops

Exactly. I just don't buy this idea that devs have to contend with all the different PC hardware configurations so their games don't run as well. Resident Evil 5 is probably the best example... looks incredible, runs on old hardware, scales brilliantly. Call of Duty 4 ran great from the start as well, at the time it was probably one of the best looking games available.

It's probably got more to do with the fact that virtually all console games are rendered at 720p or below, have much lower resolution textures no AA etc. They get away with this mainly because the games are played from 10ft+ away on a console, so the comparatively large amount of detail that is missing goes more unnoticed.

I'd bet that even on a sub-£300 budget it would be possible to build a PC that ran most games at the same level of detail as a console.

I think another thing to bear in mind is consoles are designed from the ground up just to play games, there is no legacy hardware or need to be compatable with older teck for the most part

Also consoles are actually quite expensive to make, and companies for the most part make the money on games, not the hardware, i'm sure if they sold consoles at the same profit margins as PC's they would cost a fair bit more, certainly in the first 2 years of release

Me neither, but there seems to be surprisingly many misguided individuals when it comes to evaluating Metro 2033 aesthetics :)
If you have the hardware to play it in all it's glory(including physx) then yes, it is simply stunning to say the least and is up there with Crysis!
One of my 360 buddies jaw hit the floor when he watched me play it!:D

Crysis was released 3-4 years ago and current top end cards (GTX580's / 6970's) still struggle to play it on max settings at reasonable resolutions. That makes it VERY, VERY, VERY POORLY CODED. Most top end cards at the time could only run Medium settings at 1280x1024.

Metro is much easier to run on High/Max settings and at higher resolutions than Crysis was at time of release.

If Microsoft designed a new version of Windows or Office which needed 8x existing processor power to run correctly, would it be seen as "inovative" or "poorly coded"?

isnt the words badly coded often an excuse for those with 2nd/3rd gen hardware that cant play the game??
My GTX580 SLI sees drops below 30fps @ 1920x1200 on Crysis benchmark. I don't play the game anymore because there are plenty of better and prettier games that require much less horsepower to run adequately.

Do you have an SSD? I know the benchmark loads on the fly and a mech HDD can lower your fps.

Not sure how many people have the SSD capacity to put a short life game like Crysis on their SSD instead of an HDD. I usually can only fit my 3 most played games on my 80 GB HDD. So I wouldn't expect it unless they're a hardcore bencher, don't have many games or <3 eye candy more than addictive FPS

I never put games on my SSD. High capacity SSD's did not exist 3-4 years ago, so needing one for Crysis is another pointer to extremely poor game design.
