I've had this PC for nearly 4 months now and it had a strange problem where if I try to play a proper DVD in Windvd 7 it spins up and then crashes with BSOD, stop error 0x0000008E nv4_mini.sys .

First I thought it was display driver, but isn't that an nforce driver? I think I remember reading somewhere not to install nforce IDE drivers over standard windows ones(?) [please tell me why installing nforce4 drivers for the very same chipset would cause a bsod !] So I'm guessing I overwrote them.. that's the only thing I can think of that's causing this. I updated the PATA driver in windows, but the problem is still there.

I can use windvd fine, playing dvds from hd - just not with proper dvds. I can play proper dvds in windows media player... soo it's not a major problem. But I do have to remember to remove any dvds before starting windvd !

googling hasn't been very helpful. Any suggestions please?

AFAIK, that file is to do with the graphics drivers. Are you running the latest Forceware drivers? If not, try upgrading and if you are, try downgrading to see if it makes a difference. Other than that I don't have any suggestions im afraid.

oh yeah, it's a display driver.. there goes my theory :)

I had to use the latest drivers as the older ones caused some effects in Oblivion. I guess I can put up with it until nvidia fix it.
