Proper Noob needs advice

Hi guys,

I've never built or upgraded a PC before, I'm the noobiest person around when it comes to hardware. That being said, I want to build a pretty good rig that'll let me run Oculus Rift titles with high FPS and visuals.

Work have just sold me an old dev PC for £50, specs are below. What do you think I should add? Can i get away with buying another GTX 580 and running Tripwire? Anything else i should add/change?

CPU: AMD FX-4100 3.6ghz Quad Core (FD4100WMW4KGU) Processor
Graphics:GeForce GTX 580
Storage: 250gb SSD, 500gb SATA hdd
Memory - 16gb RAM.
Power - 1000w Silent Pro
Not sure on the motherboard....

Any advice appreciated!

The recommended settings for using the Rift are as follows:
NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
8GB+ RAM
Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
2x USB 3.0 ports
Windows 7 SP1 or newer

I fear your CPU may be underpowered, but more importantly, you will need a new GPU im afraid.

£50????? Jesus, you saw them off didn't ya?! well done.
Do you have a budget in mind to allow for upgrades?
Only thing i'd do right now is up the GPU.

To change your cpu to intel (preferable) you'd need to change the mobo too, but to keep costs down you'd need to ensure the board could take the existing 16gb of ram.

Dependant on board, you may be able to run a bulldozer on there anyway.....

TBH, i was planning on spending around £800 - £1000 on a new comp but thought this might be a good project! With xmas on the way however any way I can save money would be ace.

Thanks both for your suggestions....i agree on the GPU, will probably just buy a high end one....will consider the CPU too
