I'm back baby!
Millward has been sacked by Wigan.

The only real surprise is that he didn't realise he was going. He said on the 8th that he felt no pressure!

Wigan have been woeful this season. I think this was the only way forward, but they need a top-class coach and they need one now.

What happened to Wigan, they used to be head & shoulders above everyone else?
Losing Farrell and Radlinski are massive, massive blows. No team would've been able to deal well with the loss of Farrell, but I don't even remember Wigan being compensated for his loss either. They might've been but I can't imagine it being much.

Radlinski has been injured for a long time now, and has finally called it a day this season. He announced his retirement a short time ago.

They've had a lot of shorter term injuries this season and last too.

Its certainly a massive downturn in fortune for them though.

Wigan actually have some pretty good talent coming up through the ranks from what I've read and seen, although a few of the lads seem to have left over the last season or two.

The problem is that with the loss of Farrel, Radlinski, Carney et al, they have lost some pretty big guns who won't be replaced overnight, not to mention the lack of experiance through the squad and guidance for the young'uns.

They have also been through more coaches than I can remember over the last few years...

Nope, not as far as I'm aware.

Wigan might have some decent youngsters coming through but to do anything like improve them to the point where they can be challenging, never mind beating, the likes of Stains and Leeds, its just not going to happen. Leeds have a fantastic set of youngsters and Stains probably have the strongest side on paper that has played in the Superleague yet.

Even Bradford will be hard for Wigan to catch, and with Warrington, Salford, et al improving season on season its a long way back for Wigan.

I happen to dislike Millward and was very surprised when Wigan took him on. I'm sure there's more to that one than meets the eye. Wigan need to pick the right man though, and stick with him. Solid foundations.

Glad to see Millward go personally. He did himself no favours at Saints and I too was surprised when Wigan took him on.

After this Fridays Saints game Wigan have a half decent chance of picking up some points at home, with the Quinns at Home then two away to Huddersfield & Hull which will be difficult, then Cas at home if they take no points from them four games they'll be struggling big time to stay up. Is it one down this year or two again?

Its one down this year I think. I know the Catalans have been told they have a years grace though, if they finish bottom then the 2nd bottom team goes down.

I actually feel sorry for Wigan atm. I can see a real hammering coming to them this week.

It might be staved off by the release of Millward though, much in the same way as Newcastle players responded after Souness went, players may lift their games.

Be interesting to see the home support after the Saints game the Wigan fans not being renouned for following a poor team.

As stated they have some good youngsters coming through Kevin Brown looks like he'll make a good one, but I think they've got the balance wrong a lost two many old heads to guide the youngsters.

a lot of the players like the white powder and they are getting into fights every weekend around town.

There is no discipline in the team anymore and getting rid of Millward is big mistake.

DIdn't realise they were in to Talc, no wonder they get into fights smelling like a bunch of pansies ;)

But seriously was Millward a good role model, wasn't exactly subtle himself. It was a shame that Mike Gregory had to give up coaching he had the potential to be a top coach. Whatever happened to Dennis Betts?

Catalans have a two year non-relegation agreement I think, not entirely sure but that's what I remember.

I've got a feeling the players will lift their game against Saints also, because Millward has gone but also, they always seem to raise there game against Saints regardless of form.

In other league news Sinfield is out for 4-6 weeks, I don't think it will hit Leeds too hard, McGuire would be a bigger miss, but I think Bradford will turn them over on Thursday night.

By the way, has Farrel made his debut for Saracens or not yet?

Nope. Been one injury after another. He was supposed to be fully bedded into the England squad ready for the World Cup next year.

I wouldn't mind but the RFU are helping Saracens to pay his wages. Which means my subs are paying for him to sit on the touchline at Vicarage Road week in week out.

don't think farrell is going to play this season. I'm still interested as to exactly what position they're planning on playing him at.

It would have been really interesting had sarries got relegated this season to see who the rfu would have shipped him off to.
