Looking at helping out a friend with a PC build and he's asked me for some assistance. Budget is approx £900 and he's got the case, hds and is getting a Coolermaster 1kW PSU of some description.

Wanted i7, but it's a bit pricey at the moment so he's settled on a Kentsfield CPU. Have tried to spec the system around that as follows:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - OEM £199.99
EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ "Superclocked" 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (512-P3-E884-AR) £146.99
Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £96.99
Samsung SM2032BW Pebble 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black £99.99
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK) £66.99
Sony DDU-X10S Blu-Ray Reader Serial-ATA Drive - Retail £49.99
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775) £22.99
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) £5.99

£870.45 inc VAT and shipping

He doesn't want an ATI card, and I'm not that brushed up on the cards at the moment. Any feedback would be most appreciated though.

does he have an OS to put on there? only 3gb~ of the ram will be seen if he's using a 32bit OS so if he needs to buy one see if he can push to a 64bit

A 1kw psu is massively overkill for that rig. A quality 500w would be more than enough. The rig in my siggy only has a peak draw of 274w.

didn't read that bit properly, thought he had it already, yeah no need to go and buy one that big, get something half that, 650w tops if he really wants
