Hi

Thought i would post here for some help and opinions.
I have pretty good knowledge when it comes to computers but not so much with building them so have asked a friend if he would build one for me as he has far more experience.

he has compiled this list for me for parts to buy, now i was looking to spend about £1300 for a high end set up so i can play all new games on highest settings and also will be doing video editing as well

the list comes to £1537.98 without keyboard and mouse and anything else forgotten, now what i would like is some advise on if the set up is worth that amount and if any parts are worth changing to lower the overall price as they are just overkill? (also is there any point having windows 7 pro over home?)

any help appreciated

here it is:

graphics card: asus gtx 670 - £345.29

case: aerocool x-predator black edition full tower - £101.94

motherboard: asus maximus v extreme intel z77 socket 1155 ddr3 pci-express - £293.66

processor: intel core i7-3770k 3.50ghz (ivybridge) - £245.99

memory: corsair x79 vengeance jet black 16gb 1866MHz - £85.10

psu: 800w corsair gs800 v2 - £86.34

ssd: ocz vertex 4 128gb - £86.75

hdd: 1tb seagate barracuda st1000dm003 - £57.95

os: windows 7 pro - £104.96

Monitor: Samsung S24b300hl LED LCD 23.6" - £130

total: £1537.98

cheers

Welcome to the forums, someone will be along soon to help with the specs but just a friendly heads up, please read the FAQs about not linking to competitors of OCUK, they fund and run the forums :)

apologies for the links, removed them now.

appreciate the revised specs, currently looking into alternatives and doing a bit more research

@ OP, besides gaming, what other uses will it have? The 3570k is sufficent enough for gaming.

i will also be using it for editing, use programs like sony vegas and photoshop etc

how do i post my basket into the forums like above^^?

i have rethought the list and have found a few alternatives i would like to share

Building a pc is easier than you think (Just dont put the Thermal paste on the Cpu pins HAHAHAHAHA. people that have been around will understand that)
There are loads of tuts on youtube and forums so if you get stuck just head back over and we will help u

if you have and old PC or components spare i'd be much better to practice with them instead of your awesome new kit. also you haven't added a graphics card to your second spec. good luck :)

The RAM is too tall for the heatsink fan to clear.

Better board - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-388-GI

Your already going all out on the spec, whats 10 quid at the end of the day when your spending £1500. Go for the Gigabyte board..

Some minor changes:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £329.95
1 x Samsung 128GB SSD 830 Desktop Series SATA 6Gb/s KIT with Norton Ghost - (MZ-7PC128D/EU) £89.99
1 x GeIL Black Dragon 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (GD38GB1333C9DC) £28.79
Total : £460.13 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Memory will not have any compatibility issues with larger heatsinks, and speeds over 1600mhz have very little performance gains.
