Hi all,

So I have spec'd up this new build. I think im happy with all of it but would like some help with the GPU and the RAM. Im currently weighing up the 660Ti and the 670. The 660Ti seems to be about the same as the 670 and is cheaper.

This machine will be hooked up to my 42" Samsung 3D HD TV - so I wont be running 4K.

For RAM i have heard you should keep the latency's low. Any recommendations here or is what i picked decent?

Thanks all.

Does your 3D TV support 3D from a GPU? Also have you considered using a 7950. Its nearly 660TI pricing but has 670 performance.

Welcome,

Any particular reason you are going for Nvidia? Will you be using their 3D vision?

Just wondering, as the 79** AMD cards are very price competitve at the moment (better value for money) if you are not using Nvidia Specific features.

The Majority of your spec looks good, though that RAM is Wildly expensive.

I would suggest this RAM as it's Low profile, sleek and lights up too (giving a bit of a WOW factor) and it's at a very good price at the moment.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Avexir Core Blue Series 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (AVD3U16000904G-2CW) - Blue Light £40
Total : £43.91 (includes shipping : £3.26).

I would also suggest getting an ASUS or Gigabyte (or MSI) motherboard. Asrock aren't a firm Favourite here due to some issues. The Z77X-D3H would be my suggestion:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
Total : £122.89 (includes shipping : £8.25).

Thanks guys. I'll check those when I get home.

Just to update I initially picked an i5 but I can afford the i7 so have picked that.
The machine will be used for gaming and media (xbmc).

I forgot that I have a blu ray and 2TB HDD going in too.

I have picked nvidia simply because I have always used them and I have read people having a lot of issues with AMD drivers. I know there are 2 stories but I think I prefer nvidia.

If you can afford the i7 why not, eh? HT may influence games soon, you never know.

The issues with the AMD drivers seem to be over and they've even increased the performance of them by a remarkable amount. I think the 7950 should be one to look at. Great pricing at the moment too.

Thanks for the help.
Will take a look at the AMD cards then. You think the 7950 is better than the 2 nvidia cards I have picked?

Will also look to change my motherboard.
