Hi!

Am looking to upgrade my current system to the following spec - new system is getting a little old and will be selling it onto a friend so count all the kit out.

02 x Point of View GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz
Asus Striker Extreme nForce 680 (Socket 775) DDR2 Motherboard
OCZ 4GB PC2-6400C4 Reaper DDR2
Enermax Galaxy 1000W Modular PSU
Dell 3007WFP-HC 30"
36Gb Raptor - Windows
74Gb Raptos - Games
250Gb Caviar WD - Storage

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,

Agent.

This is just personal opinion but I don't think SLI is worth it, I'd go with just 1x 8800GTX, To which a 1000W PSU is overkill, 500-700W is very able to provide sufficient power to the machine.

Fair point dude - I almost **** myself when I found out how much the PSU was..!! However, I've had single card solutions for a while and just wanted to dip my toe into the dual GPU arena for a wee while.

I can understand, for me personally the SLI isn't worth it because for the most part it's double the price but not double the performance, All peoples preferences differ though, so if you can afford it & want too, go for it! Still 700W PSU will do the job just cheaper!

If I were you (which I'm not, but we're pretending here), I would go for an 8800GT for the moment and then upgrade when the next generation of Nvidia cards come out, selling on your GT to a friend.

This way, you can still play all games at a decent level. The only one you'll struggle with is Crysis, but then ALL setups will struggle with this. That way, if you still want to go SLI in the future you can do so with the better batch of games.

Of course, if you do this one could ask why not just wait until penryn etc. But the point is you'll be able to play all games comfortably in the mean time :)

I wouldn't bother with the Raptors.
Search this forum for raptor and you'll find most people say the same.

I have one sitting in Scythe box so I can't hear it.

bear in mind the 30" Dell Monitor he's using can run @ 2560X1600 res

Hay guys - thanks for your responses. All have been greatly appreciated. I am concerned about the 2560x1600 res, this has sparked the whole upgrade tbh.

So going to a 8800gt for the time being would be a slight performance hike for the time being but not much over what I currently have (kinda). I've got a C2D 6600, x1950xtx, 2Gb RAM & AWD-9 MAX mobo. The HDDs are existing and I can only say that your right, really not worth it but they are there and make me happy.. :P

Just annoying that the real bits that I want aren't being realised for a good few months. :(
