Hi folks,
Bit of a long shot but thought I'd take a chance and see if anyone could advise.
I have a HP ProDesk 400 G5 Microtower which comes with a 180w 80 Plus Gold power supply. I'm looking to add a board-powered graphics card to beef it up a bit but I know the 180w will underpower anything I'm looking to put in and a standard ATX power supply won't fit inside the case correctly. HP officially support a 310w power supply for this model and self-supply it under part no. L29874-001 but information and particularly images of it are rather scarce.
The main issue is that HP use a proprietary connector for the traditional 24-pin motherboard connector, labeled as a 'P2'. It appears to be a connector capable of housing 7 wires although my current power supply only has 3 wires running through this same connector.
I have managed to find a cheaper 310w HP power supply (different to the officially supported part number mentioned above) which fits the same physical dimensions and has the exact same connectors but the 'P2' connector on this 310w model has more wires running through it (additional red, white and black).
Are these additional wires likely to be relating to the delivery of more power from the power supply to the motherboard or something different? I'm reluctant in the event that it's a re-wire and ends up damaging the motherboard and/or new power supply but my instinct is that seems to make sense. If I could see the cables used in the officially supported part then it would be easier to pull the trigger.

Thanks
