Hi Guys,
Just wanted to share this, as its a nice tale of a corporate body actually doing something reasonable for a user
I bought a GTX 980 Windforce from the fairly common exchange shop (well actually, this was the last in a series of card swaps due to them not having weeded out faulty cards properly, I'd originally been after an RX480...), as I had a few things to get rid of.
Alas, whilst it could be used around desktop, it was not stable at 3dclocks without ridiculous levels of downclocking. Rather than trying to return the card to 'the shop' again (remember, series of cards in a few days), I contacted Gigabyte direct, as I had the serial number and thought it was worth a shot.
They politely asked the relevant questions and I was honest and told them where I got the card as they wanted to see the original invoice. They told me that as I was not the first owner, they could not replace, but they would at least try to repair the card for me free of charge. Reasonable enough, and would potentially save me going back into the shop again.
I dropped the card off for them to investigate, then a day or two later I got an email stating unfortunately they couldn't repair it, and the card was ready for collection.
Twenty minutes later however, I got an email saying that as an exception, they'd decided to replace the card for me with another refurb!! They swapped me from the GTX980 to a refurb 1070 ITX OC variant, and as you can imagine over the moon.
It seems to be working perfectly, and whats more, if anything DOES go wrong, they'll offer to attempt repair (although not replace) should anything else go wrong for the remaining months of the original 3 year warranty.
What more can I say, ecstatic, and over the moon. They didn't have to do this at all, I didn't expect it, and it was a very nice surprise after the chain of bad luck I'd had with faulty cards (4 RX480s and a 980!). This and the UK RMA centre (based in Milton Keynes) you can drop off at, certainly pushes Gigabyte to the top of my list in future!
Has anyone else had any nice surprises from Gigabyte warranty support or any of the other big manufacturers?
Oh, and although the ITX Variant doesn't clock quite as high as some of the other versions, who could knock being given such a powerful, small card. So versatile!!
