Protect and Serve . . . yeah right !

If you were drunk, and grabbed at a police officers gun because of a stupid drunken action, you're saying it's perfectly ok for that officer to execute you?

There were more options available to those officers, the officer for whom allegedly had the man reach for his weapon specifically, made the wrong decisions.

Yeah of course there were other options. In that video ThestigGT999 posted, the news anchor made the valid point that when the man reached for the officers gun, all the officer had to do was stand up. There were 4 other officers there all able to restrain this guy.

If this had taken place in the UK, the police would have ended up with this man in custardy, and probably unharmed. In America though with their gun culture, it seems to be shoot first and ask questions later. Even worse is that the American police appear to be immune from reprisals for their heavy handed approach.

They have nightsticks (that much is easily visible in the video) and now a witness report (in the video posted above about Tazers) so that is less lethal options (I say less lethal as people have still died from Tazers with bad hearts etc).

And what I didn't even notice was the 2nd (I guess another homeless) person picks up the black officers (certainly not all white officers there) night stick before being bundled to the ground by his colleagues when he points out to them that he/she has it in his/her hands.

Nightsticks, man on floor, Taser-ed and the man is outnumbered 4 on 1. The man should have been arrested, not executed.

Source for the woman being homeless?

There is no justification for the end result Stulid. I would be genuinely terrified if you were an armed police officer with these views.

Get this thread closed already.

Same old arguments, Brit mentality trying to understand the US, same old faces, same people using latin pretentiously.

zZZzzzzZZzzzzz

Haven't seen the video, I'm sure it's tragic, I'm sure the police may have been able to do things differently, I am sure the poor bloke could have done things differently.

I am of a view that it's not the best kept secret that the US police are trigger happy (rightly or wrongly). Listen to them and avoid being shot at. Quite simple really.

I have no source, but looking at the clothes etc and I did say "I guess another homeless".

Why ask for a source whether homeless or not, its irrelevant or is that the defacto defense in GD when someone types something.

No one is trying to understand, we're making a commentary in the way things work in the US.

Also, something isn't pretentious just because you don't understand it.

 So watch it before coming in to moan.

Now you're doing what you've just complained about others doing.

That aside, police officers have shot at people even when they've been compliant. There is a video recently where someone was shot FOR following the instructions the officer gave him.

Haven't seen the video, I'm sure it's tragic.

Why are you even posting ? You haven't bothered taking a few minutes to watch the video, and you've come here demanding the thread closed while surreptitiously making snarky remarks about posters. If you're so not interested in this thread, don't post.

:).

Your lack of empathy and your views in here are tragic and scary. I'm pleased you're in the minority.

Aggressive, homeless man with mental health issues is forced to the ground by four police officers and executed in the middle of the day, and according to you was 'dealt with'.

Just playing devil's advocate.

Stulid is an armed officer, you have done nothing wrong but he is yelling at you to get on the floor and spread. What would you do?

Heavy handed moderation and or censorship with made up on the spot "rules" is somewhat of a staple around here depending on who you're dealing with.

That being said, we're talking about, to put it in simple blunt terms, a crazy man who doesn't want to listen because he crazy. The fact that he's windmilling at the beginning of the video shows he isn't all of sound mind.

Source for him having mental heath?

See how easy it is to do;)

Agreed

Seeing how Stulid avoided my question earlier it seems quite funny that his is being asked :).

With Stulids thinking, if you were drunk and drunkenly made a grab for a police officers gun, that officer (or nearby officers) are entitled to shoot you. Which is the question I asked of him.

Specifically ;

Shooting victim

  • Nicknamed Africa, had been living on the street for months, eyewitnesses say
  • Said to have spent 10 years in a mental health institution before winding up homeless
  • Said by people who knew him to have not been violent but still exhibited "mental problems"
Sources: LA Times and ABC News

They do what ever it takes to protect themselves and the public.

Its that simple and night and day.

"said" to have etc.

Not fact.

Still see how easy it is to do this "source for that" rubbish. :D

Or you could even reference the article in the OP.

Wow I've never seen someone argue so poorly as this.

Have you even looked at the article?

Witnesses said the dead man was known as Africa and had been homeless after treatment for mental illness.

I'm not sure that executing an unarmed man, in a four v one situation, is really protecting or serving.

This was totally avoidable and I am very quickly becoming tired of 'debating' this. As I have said, you're in the minority of posters on here and certainly when this was discussed at University this morning, nobody even held your opinion.
