Protected MP4 files

So I have a friend (no seriously, its not me) that wants to convert a protected MP4 file from iTunes into an MP3 file, I have zero knowledge on such matters, can anyone suggest suitable freeware for doing this?

Audacity, play your mp4 whilst recording output with Audacity. Convert recorded file to mp3.

I thought Itunes removed copy protection on songs? Either way it can be converted from within Itunes itself if that helps? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204310

It is an audio file apparently. I have given him the advice on both iTunes and audacity and he is going to try those options. Cheers chaps.

Well I get him to check his file extension name again for me, it is possible he has got confused.
