Does anyone know if there is a way to password protect a specific directory or file, so that anyone who wants to see, or access the file has to enter a password etc?

Like, if I wanted C://Andrew/Pictures/Parties to be inaccessible without a password, could I do this? I know you can rar files, and password them from there, but is there any easier ways?

Using Vista Ultimate.

PS : This is for totally legitimate purposes....-.-

But even if I encrypt them, I can open it freely, without restrictions or warnings.

Just create multiple user accounts.....admin for you....and guest for anyone else.....guest would not be able to access the files in Admin personal folder...

....the encrypt it so that if someone puts in a Live Ubuntu CD or something to get to the files, they can't.

Use encryption, but do read up about EFS and recovery keys so you know what happens and how to recover.
I remember a manager a long time ago encrypting his laptop c: years ago thinking how clever he was, only to say how he had to reinstall Windows because it no longer worked. And to think he was a senior tech bod. *Shudder*

Vista Ultimate has BitLocker. That plus the above should keep any casual snoop away.
