Hi, I moved into a newly renovated house about 2 years ago now. They put down brand new decking in the back yard. I am worried that it might need some protection to keep it in good condition.

What should I buy?

(This will be my first DIY task I have ever done other than building a flat pack desk and wardrobe so go easy on me :p)

Buy some decking cleaner and a wire brush to remove any dirt and moss. Then use some decking stain in the colour of your choice. Or, you could just use a clear vanish.

About to do the same task in about a week after some paving has been done next to it. About the same age, I've already cleaned it as I did it after cleaning the fencing, both with a pressure washer and was pleasantly surprised how much cleaner it all came up. Will give the deck a second clean after the paving has been laid as it got a few spots of fence stain on it and no doubt will get sand on next from paving. Got some ronseal deck stain standing by though in country oak I think.
