Im looking for options to help block computers in a network from accessing porn and other such sites.

What is the best way to do this?

Edit:

I should clarify the situation, and tell you whats done so far..

Right, I am setting up a small network for our local community centre. We have been given a grant for some laptops and a printer.
I have got 6 laptops and a wireless printer.

Ideally, I feel that we need a basic Desktop PC to act as a master controler, however, at the moment, we only have the 6 laptops and one is a dual use as the master and user.

This I feel is stupid, however, its not my choice.

But anyway, I have given the centre one of my old wireless routers, and I have simply setup a list of words and sites that the router itself will block... This is doing a good enough job for most things, but of course, its easy to get around.

So, I was wondering what would be our best option?

Setting up a base / master PC and have all traffic going through that, and have specific software controling what the laptops can access? If so, then can I also use it to record the sites etc it goes on? What software will do this?

Thanks in advance.

I've had reasonable success with the GFI Cloud Web Protection.

It's a cloud based proxy that allows you to control and monitor what's accessible. It's simple to setup, reasonably cheap, and has the advantage that it'll work even if the laptop is connected to a different network.

It's subscription based (starts at 10 seats for £180+Vat) and there's a 30 day trial version.

OpenDNS parental controls (home) or web filtering (business/paid) are options. You'd need to lock down the clients as standard accounts with no access to network settings to bypass DNS, but then that's something you'll have already done - right?

What isp are you with ? Most now include options for blocking these types of sites. They are all roughly the same but only the major providers do it. Something like sky shield
