Protecting the top of a computer desk

So I got this nice desk from IKEA and I'm looking for a way to protect its surface. Anything that I can put or stick on top, but to cover the whole surface. Could be a mat, or something adhesive that you stick on top.

What would you recommend?

I think I found what I was looking for - Fablon from B&Q or self adhesive vinyl (sticky back plastic)
