Since getting my Canyon Nerve 29er last month I've been smashing my Strava PBs and tearing up the trails - I absolutely love it.

However, the new-found (over)confidence and extra speed has led to two big spills in the last three weeks and my Mrs. is getting worried.

She's insisted I get some knee and elbow pads and a full-face helmet.

Based on recommendations on here previously, I've decided on Race Face Flank Leg protection (for knees and shins) and Race Face Ambush Elbow pads.

Where I'm struggling is the helmet.

I thought something like the Giro Switchblade or Bell Super 2R MIPS would be a good compromise, so I can remove the face guide when I don't need it. Aparently 'they won't be solid enough' and it has to be a fixed full face.

So… Any suggestions? There's so much choice and I'm a bit lost.

Fixed full face is going to be uncomfortable to cycle with. When I use mine, I tie it to my bag and just don't lid up for the cycle on the way up.

That's fine, if it's just up and then down all the way.

Thanks for the info Begbie, I'll bear that in mind.

I also shredded my gloves on the last tumble so wondering about something that's a bit more heavy duty, without getting really hot and uncomfortable.
