Howdy :)

Currently playing through Prototype, and I often get drops to ~25 fps where I have visible chug.

The funny thing is, whilst the game is using both cores of my 4870X2, both cores are only at ~40% load, so I've no idea why it's not using both cores to their potential in order to gain FPS.

Surely my Q6600 at 3.2 isn't bottlenecking the game?

Playing at 1920x1200, max settings, 4xAA.

Are you using a framerate monitor to detect your fps, or are you just guessing because you can see the chug?

If it's the second one, it might be because Prototype really hates a good framerate. I had to download a framerate limiter to stop it chugging.

Both ;)

Fraps reports dips into 30s often, into 20's intermittently. I can also see the chug :p

I've yet to buy the whip upgrade - I used it last time I played, and the game was just too easy - I'm now concentrating on drop-kicking choppers out of the sky :D

This game used to fly on my 4870X2 and i7 with higher AA levels than you have. It could be your cpu that is causing the slow down. Prototype can have allot going on, on the screen.

Also just to let you know your cpu at that clock speed is bottlenecking your 4870X2. You really need your cpu at around 3.6ghz to get the most out of a 4870X2. I found it made a nice difference for games like Farcry2, crysis etc...

I believe that was Penny Arcade's justification for buying the game:

:D

I'm pretty sure I was messing up the stealth consume stuff the first time I played through. I've had quite a lot of fun going into military bases and stealth consuming everyone :p

At least until I get bored and decide to wreak some carnage.
