Provisional World Cup Squad

No real comparison tbh. Owen had played a full season for Liverpool and had been top score in the EPL with 22 goals (played 43 games in total that year aswell iirc), Walcott has started 13 games and scored 5 goals in Division 1.
But i do hope he proves everyone wrong for doubting his selection.

Owen has never scored 20 goals in a League season....

Was on ssn about 10mins before i posted.
/Edit
He scored 18 in the league making him EPL top scorer (joint with Sutton and Dublin) and 22 in total. Either way no comparison to Walcott situation.

I feel sorry for that theo walcott, our media is awful for creating hype and pressure. Hes either gonna be loved or very hated and the pressure on him when/if he steps out on that pitch at the WC is gonna be awful any mistake and it wont go unnoticed

riquelme not in the argentina squad, whats gone on there?

Argentina coach Jose Pekerman has named 16 players who he will definitely be taking to the World Cup in Germany.
Prior to the announcement of the 23-man squad, the 16 players, 15 of whom are based in Europe, will train in Spain.

Three Premiership players are included, Manchester United's fit-again defender Gabriel Heinze, West Ham's Lionel Scaloni and Hernan Crespo of Chelsea.

Javier Zanetti and Walter Samuel were not named as they are involved in matches for Inter Milan in Italy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Goalkeepers: Roberto Abbondanzieri (Boca Juniors), Leonardo Franco (Atletico Madrid)

Defenders: Nicolas Burdisso (Inter Milan), Gabriel Milito (Real Zaragoza), Fabricio Coloccini (Deportivo La Coruna), Leandro Cufre (AS Roma), Roberto Ayala (Valencia), Gabriel Heinze (Manchester United)

Midfielders: Maximiliano Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid), Esteban Cambiasso (Inter Milan), Juan Pablo Sorin (Villarreal), Juan Roman Riquelme (Villarreal), Luis Gonzalez (Porto), Lionel Scaloni (West Ham)

Not sure where you heard Riquelme wasn't in the squad mate

I thought I saw on sky sports news this morning that he wasn't in the squad. I wasn't paying too much attention and it probably referred to this. Ripper^ might have thought the same.

The Villarreal playmaker has missed this week's get-together in Madrid to return to his homeland, following the death of close friend Marcelo Delgado's father.

Wes brown not being in the squad is nothing short of disgraceful as well, he may have a head that looks exactly like a baked bean, but he's a ******* good defender, personally from what i have seen i'd play him ahead of ferdinand, as he seems to like beckham have little spells where he forgets that he's playing a game of football and just sort of wonders off, Brown doesn't do this, he seems aware for 90 minutes that he is actually playing football.

Couldn't agree more, him and Rooney have been our best 2 players this season IMO.

I want him to do well... I'm just trying to be realistic.
dunno.gif

You have bet that England won't get past the group stages, but you are trying to be realistic

Latest rumours in The Times suggest that Rooney's recovery is ahead of schedule.

Oh, and I still can't believe that Darren Bent didn't make the squad despite being the highest scoring English striker!

Come to think of it, i bet Dean Ashton is well annoyed Walcotts been picked, he deserves it far more.

He's only got 3 goals in the Premiership this season. There's at least half a dozen players who rank above Ashton in my opinion. James Beattie deserves a place before Ashton.

Im suprised with Dawson instead of Brown!

Brown can operate at right back as well as center half.

Neville ffs - get Nolan in?!!

Lol they've just shown that Walcott clip on Sky Sports news now and another where Terry got turned inside out by Aaron Lennon!

Dunno if its a good thing seeing our new talents showing some skills or a bad thing our main center half is being given the run around by kids!!

It wont happen in a game.

Terry wont be near any player like that.

Also it was in training.
The ball was thrown to Walcott & Lennon respectively then they ran at Terry who was about 18yds out, any international striker should be able to do a defender from there & get a shot on target, except Crouch:)

Or Ameobi/Heskey :p

Not overly happy with Sven's changes:

When Reo-Coker got injured and dropped off the standby list, I would have replaced him with SWP, not Phil ***ing Neville. We already have Hargreaves in the squad, we don't need another average utility player.

Then Green gets injured, to be replaced by the 4th best Liverpool keeper. I would have brought in Defoe instead, given that Rooney will be missing the group stages. 2 goalies is enough, when was the last time you saw England use 3 keepers in a tournament? If one gets injured prior to the start you can replace him anyway. A 5th striker is much more useful than a 3rd goalie when one is injured, and another has never played a top division game.
