hi,
well my 17th birthday will be in 3 months times and i am hoping to get my provisional for driving a car. i have been told that i can apply for a provisional 3 months before my 17th. is this true?

because on the application, where is says "the licence you want" it said "you can ask for your licence to start from a later date but this cannot be more than 2 months after the day you apply"

so how old do you have to be to apply for a provisional?

cheers

Does it really matter when you get it? It certainly doesn't take three months to arrive and so you'll be fine doing it in a month.

Hmmm I thought it was 2 months, either way it doesn't really matter your still going to get it sorted well in time :)

Yep, and at the end of the day, regardless of when your provisional licence starts, you'll still have to wait till you're 17 (car). :)

A good thing about applying earlier, is that once you receive your provisional, you can apply for your theory test to be taken on your birthday.

yeah i suppose i can wait a little while but i only asked because theres this rumour going round that apparntly the prices of the provisional is going up soon. i dont know if thats true(as three of my mates said this...so that kind of made me unsure!)

I wish i was as motivated to learn to drive as you. I've been 17 for a while now and haven't even thought about learning to drive!

I passed within about 90 days of being 17, didnt get my provisional through untill about a week after I was 17 and had to wait over another week for my first lesson!

I was so keen to drive that I had my provisonal way before my 17th and I even booked a day of lessons before my 17th birthday as part of a group at TRL! (Traffic Research Laboratories)

I had my first lesson on my birthday too, but I didn't know about it until the day itself which was pretty cool. Seems so long ago now even though it was only 18 months

I had my first lesson the day after my birthday, sat the theory test a couple of days later then booked my first practical test straight away. I passed my practical around two months and a bit after I turned 17, and during those two months, I managed to sit THREE practical tests in the period of ONE month. I basically rushed it as I couldn't wait to pass. :)

thats 10 hours of lessons overall :D was well chuffed wth myself
