Hi there,

My mouse was working perfectly on Saturday morning. I shut my computer down as normal but when I went to use it on Saturday evening, my mouse wasn't working. I tried another PS/2 mouse but that didn't work either. I went into Device Manager and couldn't see mouse or any other pointing devices listed.

I then plugged in a USB mouse and that worked after I troubleshooted it and my computer installed a driver. Every time I have used my computer since, I have had to re-troubleshoot/reinstall the drivers to get the mouse to work.

1) Any idea what is wrong with the PS/2 slot? Is this a major problem if I can get a USB mouse to work?

2) I am just using a cheapo Asda Smartprice USB mouse at the moment but have ordered a Logitech B110 mouse. Do you think a slightly better mouse will stop the need to reinstall a driver every time the computer is turned on?

Thanks in advance.

its the ps/2 port thats not working
they usually only have one

i guess its possible it could be turned off in bios, might just of broke on you tho :(

Thanks for getting back to me guys.

One of the best mice I've used for a while, it just lasted and lasted aha.

I'm not convinced by it so far. It lags a lot. Need to press the buttons a few times before anything happens.

What motherboard do you have?
Have you tried other USB ports?

My motherboard is a Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) MicroATX DDR3. It came with a pre-build that I got from Overclockers last year. Oh, and no, I've not tried any other USB ports yet?

Is there any way that I can check whether it is turned off? I'm not too familiar with BIOS. If it has broken, is it the end of the world if I can use the USB mouse?

i duno think there's only 3 or 4 little menu's on them gigabyte bios just need hunt thru see if anything jumps out at you about ps2

maybe there's a program some1 knows that can see if you ps2 port is showing up in windows atleast

only one ive used like this is speccy
http://www.piriform.com/speccy
but its very simple program and might not even do that

it would annoy me bcos one my fav mice is still ps2

thinking about it see if you have one them usb to ps2 adapater things, must have 10 of them laying around here

and plug the keyboard into that, see if it works in bios, should tell you if its a windows problem or not
