PS1 Savegames on PS2 Mem Card?

Well finally my copy of FF7 Arrived!

I'm playing it on my PS2 and am having problems saving my game (says no mem card inserted) Is this because you can't save PS1 Saved Games onto a PS2 Mem Card?

Its an offical Sony PS2 Mem Card btw.

Yup, you'll need a PS1 MC.

ps1 mem card for ps1 games

however u can copy a save from ps1 card to ps2 card. but thats only really if your running out of space on your ps1 card cause the game still wont read it from ps2 card
