PS2: Error reading disk

Hi,

I've had my playstation 2 a good few years now. I only really play GTA on it- 3 was fine, then I bought Vice City which lasted about 3 weeks until I could only play it for about 5 mins at which point it would crash and say 'Error Reading Disk' or words to that effect. I've had San Andreas since last christmas now and that's started doing the same thing  I've now noticed other games such as GT3 and Driver 3 freezing but they never actually crash.

I've tried a laser cleaning disk but it doesn't seem to do anything. Also, compared with other PS2s, mine seems to make a lot of noise from around the disk drive area.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

Thanks :)

Thanks :)

I've just been reading that thread before I posted this one which reminded me about what mine was doing. I don't really want to go taking it apart though as it still works to some extent so I was just wondering if there's anything else I could do without dismantling it?

I did read a while back that it was common with vice city disks so I just put it down to that disk but when my san andreas disk also did it, I assumed it must be something to do with the actual PS2 :( I also read somewhere that it can be to do with the angle of the laser?

Thanks :)
