PS2 & Gamecube in HD?

Nah, Not emulators. Not really up on the AV stuff. Just want to plug my gamecube and PS2 into something that will in turn send the signal to my HD screen, But upscaled.

I'll have a look at AV receivers that upscale. As I say I'm clueless about equipment of this sort. ANy recommendations of something in particular by anyone?

When I had a Wii, I bought a HD component cable for it, and it let me pick enhanced definition television (EDTV) mode on the console. That's the closest you can get to high definition.

The crux of the matter is though, they aren't high definition consoles and you will get a relatively shoddy picture. Upscaling to over twice the resolution never looks pretty.

I searched around for a way to do this after trying to hook a SNES up to an LCD, in short it's a challenge. Ended up plucking an old school tube telly, and to be honest I much prefer it to the idea of retro-gaming on a flat screen. Kinda takes something away from playing a 15 year old game on a bang up to date telly!

As above, also, it will still probably only give you a 720x576i picture (maybe even 720x480p), and that, scaled up onto a 40-50" flat-panel TV, will still look fairly "bad" - albeit better than via the standard composite connector.

Yes I did a bit of searching for this as my brother wanted to hook up a PS2 for his kids to play some old cheap games on his 42” plasma..

It looked bad and to be honest I took it no further and grabbed a cheap 32” CRT from somewhere, can’t remember think it was free and we hooked the PS2 up to this and plonked it all in his kids room and job done. Amazing how poor a PS2 looks on a modern flat panel. On a CRT its perfectly fine.

How times have changed..

I had this same dilemma and tried component leads etc. but in all honesty consoles up to and including the PS2 and original XBOX look best on a portable CRT TV. You'll probably pick one up at a car boot (make sure it's SCART RGB) for the price of a component lead :)

My PS2 looks great on my plasma via component, I'd rather play on a big plasma than an old CRT.

Maybe you didn't adjust the settings enough, Persona 4 looked awesome on my TV, the art really came alive.

The CRT recommendations although great, arent practical unfortunately. As its a living room set up, So it'll need to be component into my LG

Thanks for the input though!

Component it is :D

Much cheaper than those AV receivers : \
