Waiting on a PS2 I just grabbed off the members market last week, but looking for some "off the beaten track" games.
I am after games that where great but maybe not so well heard of - things like ICO or Gitaroo Man etc appeal.
The "big ones" in regards to the likes of Wipeouts, Tekken series, MGS2 etc I can find pretty easily on any top ten lists.
Never owned a working PS2 for more than a couple of weeks previously so looking forward to going through a nice cheap back catalogue of stuff.

What you got for me?

I am currently enjoying Ratchet and Clank 3 and am not ashamed to admit that fact. It's basically a third-person shooter with some smattering of platformy, adventurey nintendo-style fun.

As with ICO, Shadow of the Collosus is well worth getting. And get Katamari Damacy, because it's ace.

I know it was a multiformat game but if you haven't tried Beyond Good and Evil its an excellent choice.

Ah yes, my type of thing mate. I have it on the Gamecube. Not played it massively though, will have to get round to playing it some more

I keep meaning to get a copy of Okami to play on my PS3 supposed to be an excellent game even if the grahic style is not to everyones liking. Are you only looking for the more obscure / less well known games? As if you havent played God of War 1 and 2 you're probably in my opinion missing out on 2 of the best games of the last generation puts most "next gen" games to shame. GOW2 is the best thing ive played on my PS3, not a dig at the current PS3 games but GOW2 is so fantastic!

Resident Evil 4. Yes its fairly well known but most folk refer to the gamecube version but if you havent played it, its worth it on the ps2.

MSMalls - GOW2 is on my purchase list definitely. It looks just plain awesome IMO.
Slambo - RE4 I have on the GC, and like you say its a superb game.
HappySappy - many thanks to you too.

One question, there was a game which I absolutely loved on the PS1 which was a 3d Isometric battle/strategy type game like Final Fantasy Tactics called Vandal I think. Is there a follow on on the PS2 at all?

Disgaea is apparently a grid-based RPG like that, although I've never gotten round to playing it. Although not for the PS2, you say you have a GC, have you played Fire Emblem on that? That's similar again.

Apparently the Shin Megami Tensei (Digital Devil Saga, Devil Summoner, Persona) games are very highly regarded too, although I've not played any of them.

Looks and is. :)

Definately worth picking up the first one at the same time and playing through that first.

Whilst looking for the PS2 versions of early Pro Evo games recently, I also picked up Def Jam Vendetta and Viewtiful Joe for 99p each, couldn't really refuse at that price. They were in the unboxed games section at the counter, there were other decent games for next to nothing that I only didn't pick up simply for not having time to play them, might be worth going down to your local games shop and checking if they have a similar section.

They're hardly obscure games, but I only got them last week, and all are fantastic.

Shadow of the Colossus - very fun but in some way it's a bit shallow. Some of the boss fights are so fantastic it makes it all worthwhile, plus due to the huge world it has quite an epic feel to it.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - some of the characters were beyond ridiculous (most of the Cobras) but if you liked the other metal gear solid games, it's definately worth getting.

Okami - Only started this yesterday, but it's great fun. Art style is beautiful too. The whole brush technique works better than I thought it would too. I suppose after playing with a wii it's hard to imagine that kind of thing working well with an analogue stick.

After I've finished Okami, going to try and get my hands on the god of war games.

Some of these games are proving VERY hard to get hold of near me.
I have tried our many 2nd hand games stores in Bristol and not managed to find any of the titles so far.
Shadow of Colossus, Disgaea, Okami, Katamari, ICO and Gitaroo Man are basically non-existent in the local area. Half of the games stores including our local independents hadn't even heard of any of the titles other than ICO but even that they said they don't see very often.
Will have to go ebaying I think later this evening.
