I have no intention of getting rid of my beloved PS2 any time soon. What does need an upgrade is the measly 8mb memory card for saved games.

Now, afaik Sony only ever bothered to make 8mb cards and a larger one, say 32mb, would be welcome. I'd prefer that to having several 8mb cards and having to wonder which one I saved my game in last week.

I have seen 3rd party ones, what I need is advice from people who have used them, as I have also read a few horror stories about them being rubbish and losing their data or breaking completely. Is there a particular 3rd party brand thats worth having? Are they all rubbish? Am I better off just getting original Sony 8mb cards?

I have an action replay card someone gave me a while ago but i put it in the second slot and it doesnt appear in the PS2 as somewhere to save files, so I thought it was there to store cheat codes or something. but i never cheat :)

Maybe action replay makes different types of card?

in my experience, it's alway best to use official memory card with any console

i have lost countless hours of gameplay due to 3rd party mem cards on the ps1, ps2 and gamecube. won't use anything but officials now and ive never had a corrupt save since.

just my experience of it. others may have had no probs with 3rd party cards

Agreed, which was why I bought two with my old PS2.
