The PlayStation 2 is to become an open platform in Europe, with games no longer requiring Sony's approval for release.
Budget or indie titles will bypass Sony for content approval, strengthening ties between developers and the console manufacturer, reports GameDaily.
Developer relations manager George Bain told European developers: "You no longer have to submit a game for content approval."
Citing Brazil and India as examples, Bain said developers can now "create low-development cost titles and release them in their market".
The PS2 has sold over 140 million units worldwide and outsold the PS3 in recent months
