ps2 on windows desktop?

basically posted this over in console games board but getting no response hope you guys here can help me.

I have a HIS x1800gto which comes with lots of cables which I shoud be able to hook my ps2/gc upto and play them without turning off the pc.
My question is this: is there a piece of software that will allow me to do this from the desktop?
any help would be greatly appreciated

I think what you are trying to ask is this

Is there any software out there that will pick up the VIVO from the card and display it through the pc's monitor at full screen

I managed to accieve this with Video Studio 9 but the image was in a small pane on the screen and not very useable

yea only software i have used can only show image in a small window used for recording.

maybe if you used that software and ran it in a resolution closer to what the PS2 can utilise it would work...640x480 maybe???

yep thats exactly what I was trying to ask

Damn I really was hoping something was out there to do it.

It used to be a simple case of pushing the signal selector button on my monitor but that popped inside it and i havn't been able to get it out.

Has anyone tried using the ATI media center software to do it? does it have s-video input?

I tried this with my Xbox and got a tiny, blurry window that had odd colours and was unreadable and looked like crap. Still never gotten it to work and gave up, was using the right PAL settings and filters too.

Now I just use a 15" standard TV.

I used a tv card to do this and it wont be as good quality as normal but good enough. Anything better costs..

DScaler used to work ok with my X800XL and Gamecube... give it a go

dscaler used to work, but it doesnt get on well with the latest vivo wdm drivers. Ati Multimediacentre worked up until 9.8 but after that they removed composite/svideo input :/

A new tv card is the best bet and will make the Rage theatre used on ati cards look as old as it really is.

while by no means the best tv card, i use a compro t200 to get PS2 onto my screen and by using dscaler i can sample at 768x576. in a desktop window by svideo it looks great but stretch to desktop res 1680x1050 and it looks very grainy

Latest drivers fro the compro dont play to nice with dscaler either. dscaler itself seems to need updating as its getting left behind.

i agree, it really does look crap! and having a widescreen monitor and a TV card that doesnt support widescreen was even worse (square in the middle)

my advice: get a tft TV or a normal TV, will look 100% better than any TV card unless your wanting to spend heaps

If you are getting blurred text and a bad image quality with TV in or S-video in then check the playback options in your graphics card drivers. The default on the ATI drivers gives a terrible image when running my PS2 through my TV-card. Fiddling with the video settings section of the cat panel works wonders.

Thanks for the input guys I think im gonna give up on this one and try and fix the signal button on the front of my monitor.I have a vga box I just get annoyed turning on and off the pc everytime I wanna play ps2.

Any ever open up a mutsuibishi diamond plus 200? any tips when opening a monitor?

Aside from don't? If you do have to do so then leave it unplugged for a very long time(a few days at least) as they hold a charge for a considerable period, there is a reason for the stickers telling you there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Sorry I can't be more helpful but I've never really bothered messing about with soldering irons and the like.

Unless your good with electrical principles you shouldn't open a CRT monitor. A huge charge is stored in a CRT for a long time after it is turned off, weeks even. If you really must do this (and I advise you don't) then wear insulated gloves and shoes. Keep the monitor plugged in but turned off, this way it should be grounded. Still very dangerous but you have a better chance. By the way if you drop the monitor then it will explode/implode. Funny to watch . . . from a distance.

Charges inside a tv or monitor can kill apparently. Why dont you try a tv repair place

dscaler mate. It's been mentioned a few times, I don't know why your ignoring it as it's exactly what your looking for. Use the 6.5 wdm drivers though, any newer and it will be stuck at a low res. You can still use the latest display driver, you just need wdm 6.5.
