PS2 - Which is the best model?

Any will be fine so get which ever one you want. I've had my original PS2 for 8 or 9 years now and it still works fine.

They are all the same, there is no "best model" it is essentially the same console with different casing and power consumption.

Pretty sure the latest slim PS2 had a built in PSU, it only came out a year or two ago so should be pretty easy to find.

for me i always liked the ps2 aqu blue chunky one very rare to find one now, they also did a nice silver one as well :)

I had a 79003 recently it was fine but it wasnt able to play dvd's for some reason.

But i think the newest model 90003 is the best one...not if u are into modding though mind...

They're not all made equal. I'm onto my 3rd now as the launch PS2 went wrong within 2 weeks, and it's replacement refused to read discs (laser voltage issue) around a year later. I've had a special edition silver model (big fat one) since, which has been flawless. My only annoyance is that it has capability to do 480P or better but no european games seem to support it. Especially GT4, which is pretty much the only game I still play. Shame as the US version can do it and 1080i etc IIRC.

I'd love to be able to load all my games onto the HDD (I have a suitable one and the network adapter), but I'm not sure how to do it. I have a feeling any methods may not be allowed to be discussed here, not sure.

It's easy enough all you need is a boot disc and a suitable 3.5" HDD

The first PS2 I bought had a strange problem. Max Payne would freeze the console and GTA3 cars would drop through the street, took it back. Got a replacement which stopped reading disks. After I had that one replaced my current PS2 has lasted forever and had some serious abuse.

Thinking of getting a slim PS2 depending on how cheap they can be picked up new, although that PSX I saw on Wiki looks tempting! :o

It can. Only the latest slim (9000x) blocks the loading from memory card. My vote goes to the v13 slim. Still has the points internally to let you connect a hdd, but doesn't have the problem of the laser blowing up like the v12 does.

I've done this with my PS2 and it doesn't involve a boot disk and it's awesome, Some classic games on PS2
