I'm looking to plug a PS3 into my 22" monitor but i'm a tad worried about how it will scale the games. Anyone experienced this first hand and care to comment on the results?

I'm really looking to play GTA4 on my Samsung monitor rather than having to go out and buy an LCD TV.

TIA.

I don't know if it's just my monitor (24' Hyundai) , but PS3 games look/perform awful at 720p over HDMI. It even looks like the frame rate decreases.

I have the W240D-PVA, I'll give 1080i a go, but apparently some PS3 trickery is involved to force GTA4 (all I play at the moment) past its native res.

I'm also interested in this; hoping to get a PS3 soon and I'll be connecting it to my PC monitor (SM206BW) until I can get a TV.

My monitor jus doesn't seem to cut it with the PS3, I have a cheap 20' HD tv which displays a much smoother, 'cleaner' picture than my Hyundai. Could just be my monitor, but I would also like to hear of any good results for when I buy my next one.

i run a ps3 on my 22" samsung 226bw... i find the quality crap!! everything looks so bad to me, the textures are REALLY jaggie. (no antialiasing)

im still not sure if this is normal or not tho as iv never seen a ps3 on a proper telly. its that bad that im really thinking of getting a 24incher

Just hooked my bros ps3 up to a 20.1 inch (1680*1050 native) LG monitor via VGA using an HD fury and was pleasantly surprised. Nice sharp picture.

I got my acer 19" ws monitor working today with a HD fury @ 720p and compared to my samsung le26r74bdx the picture is better , sharper text and just generally better :) i will be getter a big monitor later this year for pc & ps3 .

Running mine at 720p and it looks nice, the text looked a bit odd when I first plugged it in and it was at 1080 though.

Iv got the HP 22inc W2207H From Tesco for £190. It comes with Built in HDMI socket,

I have been playing GTA 4 on PS3 and in the Menu setup screen it telling me its running at 1080p , The picture is Gorgeous, Iv played this game on my friends plasma and he only gets 720 and its looks crap . Get the HP 2207H and your be well happy . I also use it to watch Blu Rays at 1080p aswell and its Gorgeous . a lot of people dont know much about this Monitor but it has to be one of the best Value monitors around with Great picture and 1080p for just £190. Iv got 2 x because its really that good.

Also i want to add . !

Guys if you for 22inc it will run it at 1080p , You need to go in to your ps3 settings and set the picture to 1080p otherwise it will keep it at 720 and that looks crap . Trust me because i now run the game at 1080p and it looks gorgeous , if i can run it at 1080p on my 22inc then im sure you can aswell if you set up the picture settings on ps3 menus

I hope you realise that the resolution of 22" monitors (1680x1050) is less than 1080p... so the majority of what you just said makes no sense.

Also, I agree that GTA 4 looks like ass in general, I think the developers sacrificed AA and AF for nice dynamic lighting and more detail. Running it through an analogue connection (VGA or Component) does help a little to soften everything as HDMI or DVI reproduces the image very accurately (read: sharp as ****) so things do tend to look nasty when upscaled.

Also, this is not to do with the PS3 running it in 1080p, the game was not designed to run in native 1080p so... I don't know what people are going on about it when they say things change between 720 and 1080. Running it in 720 at 1:1 the game is still choppy (lacking AA) so... yeah, just to clarify :D

I've tried GTA4 on the 360 on my 22" Samsung and although it's decent it's not sharp enough. I've learned my lesson that lcd monitors should not be used for console gaming. I'm on the look out for an lcd tv so i can match the resolutions my PS3 and 360 output at.

I think there are some good monitor's for console gaming but a 24" screen with 1:1 pixel mapping is needed really and monitor's seem to work better with 360 than they do ps3 .
