Keen to know this too. Sony's unwillingness to inform us of patch notes easily is infuriating and frustrating.

No that was part of some 'modified' firmware doing the rounds as of late. This is nothing to do with Sony or the update, and is totallly illegal.

I thought it was so that games that require a PS2 HDD, such as Final Fantasy XI, can now be played on the PS3?

On the US & JP PS stores, there's a System Settings file available for download that enables some of the BC features. It's been there since day one. It's not there on any of the PAL region's stores.

Would be pointless since the HDD was never released in PAL territories. :confused:
