PS3 2.76 has killed my console

So, and it seems I'm not alone.

Bought the ashes game and when I loaded it in, got adivsed that 2.76 was available, updated and played the game for about 20 minutes. Then *poof* stopped working. Now it won't read any discs!

Haven't contacted Sony yet, but I assume they will charge me to fix it like everyone else.

Has anyone else had this issue?

2.76? Surely it would have updated to 3.0?!

Why? 3.0 wasn't out when Ashes was released.

But if you upgrade beyond the 2.76 you might be OK...it seems odd that it would have upgraded you to 2.76 without the PSN informing you that something newer was available.

I presume he doesn't have his ps3 connected to the internet or surely he would be on 3.0

No idea why anyone wouldn't have it connected, waste of a ps3 tbh

Fair point...

@OP, if you look in the Firmware 3.0 thread there are links to the FW on the net. You can download it to a usb stick and update your PS3 with that.

Upgraded to 3.0. Drive still dead. Seems I'm not alone after a good googling.

my 40gb died after updating to 2.76

After updating to 3.00 on the 1st, after a brief time on cod4 (no more then 30 minutes) my ps3 just turned off :confused:

no lights or anything, had to flip the switch at the back to off then back to on, worked fine since but its always had an irritating clicking noise from day one, think i got a dodgy one tbh.

Also, i've been having this problem with 3.0 that has been mentioned. Occasionally starting a game will see me lose video on my tv. It reverts to a blue screen and the ps3 becomes unresponsive. Turning off and on solves the problem but its annoying.

J4K3 M, please stop derailing the thread. Your very first post was completely unnecessary and was just out and out trolling. If you have nothing constructive to add, do not post. Next time, you may be suspended.

Everyone else, if someone is trolling / their posts break the rules, in future please just report the post where a moderator will be along shortly to sort it out. Getting into arguments doesn't help and just derails the thread further which is completely unfair on the original thread starter.
