Hi all,

I've recently put together the above setup (the monitor is a Samsung T240HD)- for some reason my picture quality is absolutely appalling, and I can't figure out why- colours are washed out, textures are blocky and there's aliasing like I've never seen. Im having a hard time testing stuff as I don't have another PS3 to hand, nor another monitor with HDMI OR a spare HDMI cable...I was just wondering if anyone else has a similar setup and if they have this problem at all? It looks almost like the output resolution is through the floor and being stretched to high heaven...but it's a 1080p game. I do notice the PS3 makes my monitor flicker as if changing resolutions when I turn the game on, but the PS3 display setup properly identifies my monitor as 1080p capable.

Any input whatsoever would be very much appreciated, I'm tearing my hair out here, never had this problem on my old Dell...

Cheers,
Adam

There's nothing about overscan in the settings, but set to 16x9 it has the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen which seems to suggest that's the setting at which it's running 1080p resolution...yet theres still aliasing like mad.

Which game is it?

All games.

Have you tried re scanning the display on your ps3 menu.I did it on my 19 inch samsung and it fixed my dodgy screen. On the main menu go to settings and display settings and give that a try.

Good luck

Tried this, no joy :(

You should have a setting called JUST SCAN according to Google ?

edit: then do what Kieves1 said and try manually unchecking the lower resolutions.

Just Scan seems to stretch it beyond 1080p and fills the screen. Manually unchecking does nothing...

Thanks for the input guys, keep it coming. I think it might be my monitor though, just managed to swap out the PS3 and Cable and it looked exactly the same...

The only problem i have when i connect to my monitor is that it always comes up saying not native resolution recommended 1440 x 900 60HZ.I just have to press a button and it goes away.
Could it be your monitors native resolution?

Native res on this monitor is 1920 x 1200 ...

Few games are 1080p on consoles, so the majority will be running at 720p but upscaled to 1080p (which will result in jaggies). You stated in your first post the game you were playing was 1080p so i ask again; which game?

Batman Arkham Asylum had some jaggies and slightly off textures, so I went on to test with Folklore and Ghostbusters; in the former colours were quite crappy and jaggies were prevalent, in the latter colours seemed ok but textures were muddy/blurry as hell with a ridiculous amount of aliasing- Final Fantasy X is looking significantly cleaner through this setup than Ghostbusters is. The PC versions of both Ghostbusters and Batman, which I also tested through this monitor at 1080p and 720p res (stretched) looked a million times better, which arguably is to be expected, but I wouldn't expect SUCH a dramatic difference...
