PS3 3.30 System Software Update

Do people honestly think the updates only do what they tell us about?

Indeed. There's already plenty of stuff available to the consumer with this update that we haven't been told about, outlined above. I imagine there's also loads of stuff changed in there that is the result of a significant change in SDKs etc.

I cant believe people moan so much about the updates, would you rather they didnt update the thing at all? The update is 100mb, hardly big even on 512k internet, and it adds features that we cant see. Upgrading flash for example is a great thing imo, means more websites work that didnt before

id rather them update it constantly, seriously people... your knocking them for continued development of a console? What the hell do you want them to do, stick up 2 fingers and tell you to go jump off a cliff?

Think about how crap it would be without updtes. Seriously... think about things before you say/type it.

Moan when you get an update, moan when you dont lol, cant keep everyone happy i guess. This update must also do something else, as the MLB TV Channel starts today and Vidzone now has TV channels for continous background music like the music TV channels. Pretty sure its not just a coincidence that these happen all the same day?

I'm hoping the MLB channel will be a start point for other stuff like that to filter onto the PS3, I'd be very very happy if they brought the Sky Player onto the PS3. Kudos to vidzone too, it really is getting better and better.

Maybe they also made the trophy browsing when playing a game a bit more stable, I have had 3 lockups when browsing trophies when playing a game and now I never do that again.

Why are people complaining about the amount of updates? I strongly agree with one of the posters above who said that many people complained about the removal of the other OS option yet they were people who'd probably never use the feature anyway. Some people are never pleased and just enjoy complaining it seems.

Look at what we've got, 3D gaming on the horizon, free online play, a half decent store, a new update allowing the trophy system to be used more easily. These are all positive things and I think people should look at it as Sony making improvements no matter how small. Also, the person who above said why couldn't two 100 MB updates be turned into a single 200MB update. Surely then they would just be back on the boards complaining of downloading a "massive" update that "did nothing". It's 2010, get broadband.

Big ****ing rolleyes for everyone who just moans for the sake of it.

Nobody said that... what was said was why couldn't the two April updates have been combined in to one to SAVE having to download 200mb worth of updates.

It's bizzare that they don't mention that they've updated Flash, added more support for USB Fight Sticks within PS2 BC etc which frankly are far more interesting and useful than being told the update is for enhanced trophy sorting. (:o) Is it just a case of the firmware team not telling PR what's included.

As for it's 2010, get broadband comment . Not everyone can, as Fozzie55 pointed out.

I doubt most people really care about those features though in the grand scheme of things. People on these boards are bound to be more tech savvy than your average Joe. If I told some of my friends the new update for PS3 added better Flash support and updates to the Blu-Ray capability they probably wouldn't really care.

The people that can't get broadband can afford a £200+ console and games? If it's down to geographical reasons as to why they can't get broadband then they should probably be used to slow downloads by now. Also, I don't see that it matters if you have to download a single 200MB file or two smaller ones, you still end up waiting the same amount of times it's just the apparent inconvenience of having to sit and wait for two downloads?

I fail to see the problem still but maybe that's just me, I'm not in a rush. I turned the PS3 on, noticed an update was downloading and that was that, made a cup of tea and it was done, hardly any reason to come on the forums and have a little moan at Sony.

Well if most people don't care about the features they may as well just, you know, remove them. ;)

I was more referring to the people who are limited to a slow 'broadband' speed because of their geographical location, or have to put up with extreme bandwidth caps. Fair enough their probably used to it, but it's a little inconsiderate to force out two updates in quick succession particularly for owners of the slim console who were forced to download an update that did absolutely nothing except waste bandwidth.

As for the combined update your missing the point - I'm suggesting that they should have combined this update with the penguin killing update at the start of the month therefore being a single 100mb update.

If you're referring to the removal of "Other OS" then it's fairly obvious it wasn't because Sony felt nobody used it. Also, if people are that desperate to use Linux on a PS3 then they can still do it on the fat models. £220 for a slim to run Linux... you can actually build a PC for less that will be more than capable so I don't see a problem there.

If they have to put up with capping then it's a result of their own abuse of the ISP's terms and conditions. I don't think that providers like AOL and Virgin are a bunch of Nazi's who just want to cap everyone at every opportunity, and it's only the people who abuse the service that get capped. Which update did nothing?

How have you jumped to the conclusion that bandwidth caps are a result of people abusing their ISP's terms and conditions? There are a number of services here which average people are likely to be on that have very low monthly limits - and not to mention the situation is even worse around the world in countries such as Australia. These limits have absolutely nothing to do with people abusing their connections.

The 1st April firmware did nothing for slim owners.

I'm talking explicitly about the posters in this thread, not people in Australia. I'm sorry but I'm paying £5.99 a month for "Unlimited" 5MB from AOL. There's a fair usage policy enforced during peak hours which is more than fair enough. Are you telling me that people on these forums can't do exactly the same thing and that downloading a 200MB patch is such an effort for them? I'm sorry but I don't think we'll see eye to eye on that matter, I just feel that some people are never happy with what they have and are always wanting more.

Granted the April fools day fix was only relevant to the fat PS3's but the Slims also downloaded the fix, however this was such a minor thing for me personally that I don't even remember downloading the update. The bottom line for me is that people shouldn't criticize Sony for bringing out regular updates, even if it doesn't immediately effect us. I'm guessing a lot of people are annoyed that we haven't got party voice chat yet well boo hoo. If you want that feature buy an Xbox 360, Sony have already stated that they would like to give us it, but are unable to due to situations outside of their control. Maybe we'll see it in the future but until then it's hardly a big deal, it just comes down to people not being pleased with what we currently have on the PS3.

It's designed to play games and movies and it does both perfectly fine at the moment. Anything other such as the web browser or party chat is just an addition to it's primary uses.

AOL. :D But regardless of it being them, I can't see any of their broadband deals which offer more than 10GB usage per month (quite a distance from 'unlimited'). Perhaps you could link me?

Since we're (now) talking specifically about posters in this thread, you'll have noticed already that these sort of connections aren't available to some of them...

the problem with the sony updates is that they are:
1) pretty miuch every time u turn the thing on
2) sony servers are slow as anything and take forever
3) most updates are pointless
4) oversized/

compare it with xbl , if u ever need to update it takes about 10 seconds max and then done straight in, half the time on ps3 i spend watching this stupid bar travel at 1% every ten minutes.

and yes i have a fast net connection sony famboys.

The bandwidth is only measured during peak times with most providers, which is something along the lines of 4pm until 10pm. Also, I know that broadband isn't available to some posters, refer to the exchange that yourself and I just had:

I'll concede that there may be occasions where an ISP makes a mistake and accidentally caps a customer but again, this should only be enforced during peak hours so if downloading a couple of hundred MB is too much of an ordeal for them at that time then just do it outside of peak hours. In the past decade or so of having broadband I must say I've never had my connection capped. I do a fair amount of downloading through Steam and iTunes as well so it's not as if the connection gets hardly any use.

I think I've gone a little off topic with the broadband as my original issue was with the people complaining about PS3 updates. Aside from April can you give any other updates that have literally updated, tweaked, added or removed nothing at all? I don't think I can recall any but I've only owned a PS3 since January of this year.
