Down under mate!
Has anyone bought one of these and if so do they work? Only had my PS3 about a week and jeez it's hot after a couple of hours of play.

I have seen a Nyko ps3 Intercooler for 24.99 and am tempted to buy one,any thoughts on this peeps?

Thundy.

imo they are pointless.. no one i know so far have had any problems with the ps3 over heating.

As with the 360 coolers, they are a waste of money.

Just do your best to make sure the console is well ventilated, and that should be fine.

(Awaits the usual moronic posts regarding the 360 overheating)

My PS3 is on my TV stand and it hasn't overheated, and i haven't heard of any over heating tbh. Just make sure the vent holes have some free air and you will be sorted.

As far as i know if the PS3 gets to hot it beeps then shuts down, leaving it for a while and it will be fine. There is also supposed to be some kind of warning of things getting a bit to hot, I think the Green on light flashes red but im not 100% sure. I agree with some of the other posters waste of money, good ventilation is much more useful and normally free!

the 3 RRoD isn't really down to overheating, as mines both died after being on for a matter of minutes.

How long have PS3's been out?

Because the 360's problems weren't noticeable for a while, were they? I presume it took a while for the solder to dry out / motherboard to warp...

Still, I very much doubt Sony will have problems like the 360 does :p It'd be silly for Sony not to learn off MS's mistakes - they must've done some decent testing on their heat output

It is as it's the heat cycling that warps the PCB.

Is that really down to overheating though?? or just cheap mobo's??

360's where dying very quickly, the PS3 has been out for what 8-9 months now in the US.

you mean the outside feels hot or is it actually shutting down ?

the outside does get pretty hot because the whole upper case is pretty much one big heatsink, blowing a fan at it would probably help it seem cooler but imo it doesnt need it

our cat started going to sleep on top of ours because of the heat

never had a problem with it though /touches wood

I think the PS3 has been out long enough and sold enough units for any major design faults to become apparant tbh. The laser fault with the PS2 came to light quick soon after launch iirc.

The only thing I've noticed is when mine was inside my TV cabinet the fans would spin faster.

Never had an issue with the console though :)

Complete waste of time any money, loads of electrical items get very hot when in use seems bizarre to pay to put an extra fan onto something that isnt broke and is inside warranty, if it breaks take it back its not your problem is Sony's.

Don't, whatever you do, "put gaffa tape over the vents to stop dust getting inside" ;)

Laptop cooler

Some use laptop cooler to cool their consoles:

The fans is powered by USB.

All the coolers you can get are very inefficient in cooling the machine, most of them like the laptop cooler only cool the exterior, not the chips that are hot, so basically all it does is make more oise.

If you really want to improve cooling you need to open it up and replace the stock heatsink with better ones.

I just leave it as it is and if it breaks go back and ask for a replacement.

I believe PS3's failure rate is sub 1%, which is very impressive.

tats due to low sales (but well keep that hush) anyways the ps3 none the less has had nothing majorly wrong with it while as you see mocosoft spending god knows how much on extending it to 3 years because of the unsatisfactory customers
