Hello,

Whats happened to the 60Gb model of the PS3 ? was there even a 80Gb model ?

Looking around online i can only find the 40Gb for sale ?

Anyone know ?

Thanks Ben

60GB versions are being phased out to make way for the 40GB and 80GB. 80B consoles will be out next year. They are effectively clearing out the "old stock". I think I'm right in saying it is almost impossible to get a 60GB nowadays.

Ok thanks for that.

Bit like the core and pro from the 360 right.

Whats the spec list like on the 40Gb version compared to the 80Gb version thats due next year?

Microsoft brought them all as xmas pressies, lol

erm they nearly all sold out i'm afriad, 40gig is your only option unless you want to buy from ebay at over inflated prices or wait till next year to see if the 80gig makes it here. TBH there's not much difference between 40gig or 60gig if all you want to do is play games and watch blu-ray movies.

The real difference is that the 40gb can not play ps2 games doesnt have some memory card slots(sd, compact flash etc.) and the 60gb obv. has 20gb more space.

Just wondering are you getting a ps3 because your 360 has just died?

It has made me think, been thinking of getting a PS3 for a while for blue ray and theres a few games i like the look of and few coming out aswell.

Carnt make my mind up though, would prefer the 80Gb version that different coming out in Uk next year ?

Still gonna keep my 360 love it, just be with no console why its away :p

Lol.
Wel i thought about an 80gb but i thought it will be more expensive and i don't need the extra features and as i am going to be investing in a external hard drive i won't need the extra space :)

It seems to get bypassed totally in comparisons but the 40GB model runs a lot cooler and therefore is a lot quieter than the 60GB model, but as you have had a 360 either will be a vast improvement.

Is the 40gb considerably lighter as it has less things or have they installed more fans?

I think theres conflicting reports but it seems like theres a die shrink on the cell, also if you note on a 60 Gb there's a line of vents on the front of the console, i think they're not on a 40Gb (maybe wrong though). Think there's also been a PCB rev change to accommodate the lack of PS2 parts, so this in turn may have reduced power consumption as well as cost.

sorry forgot to mention that one. But fixed with a usb hub lol

I've seen this lacking feature on the 40gb model mentioned over and over again. Is this solution viable? (i.e. buying a bog standard usb hub)? Since the amount of times people cite the 'only 2 usb slots' thing makes me think otherwise :/

It probably is lighter but I doubt you will notice unless you put it on some scales. :p

It uses newer components such as 65nm Cell CPU (rather than 90nm) which consumes a lot less power, they also overhauled a lot of the motherboard and power circuitry so it's basically a redesign using around 70W less power overall... as it generates less heat it requires less cooling.
