PS3 60GB Owners

Mine is ridiculous.Level 3's within 3-5 minutes of XMB usage, it is really annoying when watching Blu-Rays or DVDs. Is there anything that we can do since it is out of the 1 year manufacturer warranty?
 
I have never heard the fan kick in on mine even after hours of uncharted and mgs4. Back when i used to leave it folding overnight the only thing that could be heard was a occasional click from the hdd.

Its stored horizontally in a fairly open area.
 
Mine rarely hits phase 3 atm, it did a lot in the summer. But now I hardy goes over or into 2...although I keep my window open and do have Logitech Z5500's blarring! ha
 
Mine is always on its quietest(sp?) when playing games but a few days ago I put a DVD in which I hadnt done for ages and it went mental, then I put the same DVD in the next day and it was fine.
 
If people go the auction route on this, can we all post how we got on?
(assuming it doesn't break forum rules)

I'm seriously looking at doing this myself, I'm hoping to manage it without having to subsidise the new PS3 at all, but that might be a little much to ask for.
Not that my system is particularly loud, but I'd just prefer a renewed warranty and I couldn't care less about BC.
 
Mine hits phase 3 pretty quickly. Since mines out of warranty I'm wondering whether to try and replace the fans for more quieter ones. Has this been done? :)
 
My 40GB used to spin up to stage 4 (fan test phase) in the XMB, yet Sony denied any fault and said that it was the shelf that my ps3 was stood on that was rattling,

So I put the PS3 on the floor and it did the same thing, and yet again they said that it was not a fault and all PS3s made this noise,

So I took it back to the shop and told them it wouldn't play games and they swapped it,

My new one has only ever gone into stage 2 twice,

So if you are having trouble with a noisey PS3 then definitely get it swapped, it is meant to be pretty much silent
 
Mines not bad, over the time ive had it, it probably has a lovely build up of dust in its system now so its not a quiet as it was.
