Well i've had my PS3 for a week now so i thought a little review was in order :)

Bought 60GB PS3 with Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Motorstorm, RFOM, 2 Blu Rays (Spiderman 3 and Fantastic 4) and Remote Controll at a total cost of £418.

I already have a 360 and high end HTPC plugged into the same 32" Hyundai A321 LCD TV as the PS3 will be.

Opening the PS3 reminded me of opening my Macbook, it oozed quality and right away you could tell it's in a different league to the 360 build wise. The styling also reminded me a little of an old bang and olufsen HiFi I used to have :)

It was pretty simple to setup and the XMB was familiar to me being a PSP owner . I thought it was great that Sony had included a web browser but i was disappointed by the Store and lack of anything beyond GT Demo worth downloading. The 360 dashboard and market place are far superior.

The games....

Heavenly sword - Good looking but ultimately an average game. I'll complete it and sell it on.

RFOM - Better than i expected but not in the same league as Gears of War or Halo 3 not to mention upcoming games like COD4. But this was a launch tittle and theres fun to be had.

Warhawk - Hmmm I've heard so many good reviews of this i thought it was going to be awesome! at best it's average, The graphics are more last gen than next gen and it just seems tedius to me. I really can,t see what all the fuss is about and will probably sell it.

Motorstorm - Now this is more like it, Great gameplay in single player, and multiplayer is a hoot! and the graphics are fantastic. This is by far my favourate game on the PS3.

Movies - The movies i got looked great but tbh i got them as part of the deal so will be selling them on. Blu Ray is good and all but at the moment i would rather buy the same £18 Blu Ray movie on DVD for £5 as there just isn't enough difference. Once your engrossed in a movie do you really notice the difference between DVD and Blue Ray? I don't!

Conclusion.

The PS3 as the potential to be a great console and finaly at the right price and the only thing stopping it is the lack of games. If i had to choose between PC, 360 and PS3 i would choose PC followed by 360. Because i don't have to i'll keep them all :D

It amuses me that people say the PS3 needs games, it has plenty of them, it just dosent have many exclusive games, im sure if someone has a PS3 only, they are quite happy with what has came out recently.

For hardcore geeks like us that have all the consoles, thats where the game line up looks weak, but most people will only own one console, and will probably be quite happy with their lot at the mo.

It still needs more good games.

Nice review mate very fair, though you said lack of games, and then I realised you also have a 360.

Again if you don't have a 360, there isn't a lack of games really.

Did you play HS on hell mode?

Heavenly Sword for me is the best fighting game out there on any next-gen console*.

No other title can match it in graphics (especially on a HD screen) The music while not on a par with games like Final Fantasy, was excellently done. The voice overs for the characters were superb, genuinely funny script (esp between Bohan and his son). I dont recall another fighting game where you get to battle easily 500+ enemies all at once all in individual detail and no slowdown as well :)

*but again just my opinion - if you dont like it dont read it - and dont try starting flame wars with me because you can't handle it or dont like my opinion..

but yeah Motorstorm is pretty good too :D

All consoles need more games, you can never have enough, however the "PS3 sux cuz it needz more gamez" thing really gets on my nerves.

Some class games on the PS3...

RB6Vegas
The Darkness
Oblivion
Heavenly Sword
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Sega Rally
Motorstorm
Tekken
Super Stardust
Resistance
GRAW2
DiRT
Warhawk

There's probably close to £500 worth of games there and gawd knows how many hours of gameplay, so unless your completely rich with nothing else to do all day, I think the PS3 has plenty to keep people occupied for the time being.

It's not so much that there is a lack of titles (as new ones are coming out including some great exclusives) but there is a lack in variety and diversity in the choice of current games available. Most of the games out aren't really what I'm normally into right now, with the odd exception (Super Stardust HD being one).

The PS3 is definitely the console out of 360, Wii and PS3 that I want to invest in more in the long run, which is why I own one :) but without more games it's more of a media / folding at home / play some PS2 games type of machine at the moment. But for a diverse audience of gamers into different types and styles of game I don't think the PS3 can be said to have plenty of games quite just yet :)

edit: just looking at the above couple comments. I want more games that just aren't available for the PS3 as of yet (but which seem to be in development). The needs more games argument does, I think, have some validity though less and less as time goes by. Personally, I wonder if what people really want to say is 'it needs more exclusive games' to show how PS3 differs from the competition.

Wait... so what you're basically saying is if our opinion differs to yours we should shut up because you can't take it?

don't have to give examples, plenty of comparisions on this forum alone never mind the internet. Excusives seem fine as you say and no doubt these issues will be fixed but right now if your after multi-format then 360 in general is better

I'm thoroughly enjoying my PS3 at the minute, I took quite some time choosing between it and the 360. I'm glad I got the ps3 and hopefully they will continue with some of the possible ideas they have for the ps3 - such as the tv tuner addon etc.

OT : Vin I do believe I know you ;)

Anything's possible, it's a small county, and only so many of us have that fancy electricity to run these consoles on. I even have running water!

V1N.

no :D - i welcome reasoned discussion on it but the console moderators dont. (hence why a lot of posts were deleted in the other thread)

As long as you can provide an argument without attacking the person
It might be difficult for some to resist (as was proven in the last thread)
Of course i welcome your opinion. Why else would i be on the forum? If not to hear the opinions of others.
