PS3 a week on....

but we all know that over half the multi platform games on the PS3 are simply not upto the same standard as their 360 counterparts......at the moment as i stated

which ones though? You stated something like this earlier but wouldn't back it up. I think you're right in stating that some PS3 games aren't as good as the 360 versions but I also think you are trying to start a fight over this.

as V1N stated , a lot of the early ones, then there is The Darkness, Skate, then there is reports with problems with slowdown on Pro Evo 08, Devil May Cry looking better on 360, Assassins Creed having memory problems, then the Ea games running at 60fps on 360 vs 30fps on PS3, all facts, yet no real problems with exclusives which is what i also stated so don't know why V1N is getting so uptight "shrugs shoulders", its common knowledge at present and hopefully only get better, i hope. for V1N sake, lol

Nope, but it does have a similar method of death.
Really hate this frankly stupid excuse that's said here on these forums. My Xbox360 is still going fine after thousands of hours, my PS3 died after much less.
wow, you probably have the only person i know who hasn't had to have change there 360 yet :p

Looks like Microsoft got one right then, but then even a broken watch is right twice a day :p

Oh no, are you talking about the bluray movies the OP got?
My Spiderman Trilogy Bluray Boxset just arrived yesterday, and I've not tried it yet.

Is it a poor transfer? :(V1N.

I didnt mean to indicate it was a poor transfer - just that there are better ones - CR as you rightly mentioned, POTC (audio and video is outstanding)

There are of course some films (Click I believe being one) where grain is intentionally there, just like in Black Hawk Down - another astounding disc from a quality pov but not really one of my favourites (glad I only paid £10 for it lol)

Just going back to the 'PS3 needs games arguement'. I think what people are missing is the thing doesn't need games, it needs exclusive games. The problem is, at the moment, most of the good stuff on the PS3 people have had for a while, or at least longer, on the 360. If you've not got a 360 too the PS3's line up isn't at all bad at the moment. When it starts to get some exclusives (Ratchet and Clank and Haze being the ones I'm waiting for) it'll start to look like a better bet to those of us with both machines.

Right, I'm done, back to the bickering.......

I love my ps3! Just got my component cable yesterday for 720p goodness! Perhaps it doesnt have as big a library as 360 but to be honest, I have a busy life and the ps3 only gets an hour at most a night so I have been more than occupied with heavenly sword and F1, and 300 on blu ray! Looking forward to MGS4 and killzone 2 whenever that appears. Also wanna check out SSF2THD remix, ninja gaiden sigma and call of duty 4, but these are cross platform releases I know. I think they should remake tenchu 1 for ps3, that would rock hard!

It does need more games, and i think people generally refer to the big guns when they say that eg mgs4, gt, ff etc... and i will be getting one as soon as one of them come out :D

i dont think its a fair comparision. as far as i can see, all indications are putting the ps3 failure rate in at under 1%. compared to the 360 which is at least 35%, i dont see why you think its so unfair to comment on the 360 problems?
I don't mind people talking about the 360 failure rate, there is no denying it. What I do have a problem is when people use it as a 'selling point' for the Playstation3.

I kind of see you point there, but in the Auto industry Honda sells many cars on the fact they are more reliable than the most of the rest. So surely saying the PS3 is more reliable than the 360 is a valid point for potential console purchasers? As it is with a car dealer saying that Hondas are more reliable than say Alfas. But i dont think it should be used as a reply to PS3 has no games, as its a totally different thing comparing it with the build/design quality of another console. Personally I wouldnt want loads of shovel ware/ poor ports to bolster my games cataloge, not referring to the 360 of course, but you get what i mean. It took nearly year for the 360 to start getting its AAA games after the initial launch games, seems to me it will be the same for the PS3.
Inoshishi check you mail mate

Spot on, what I meant by it is that when someone points out "There are a lack of good, exclusive PS3 titles" and someone says "PS3 fails less than Xbox360 though" is where I have an issue.

We know the PS3 fails less than the Xbox360, but is that really the selling point of a games console? I don't think the argument for a car is the same, cars can do hundreds of miles a day so a form of reliability is important and is one of the major, major selling points of a car, with a console reliability is important but shouldn't be seen as the selling point of a console.

Well actually for me personally it IS a big selling point. I took into account when purchasing. Of course it wasn't the only thing that swayed me, the fact that i think that blue-ray will be winner of the format wars was also another point. And the last point is that most of the games i want to play are either also coming out on the PS3 (RR7 and VF5) or the PC (Helo 3 and Fable 2) so for 360 games i'm covered without actually getting a 360.

Those 3 things together is what made me get a ps3 over a 360, it played a big part

Sorry to nitpic but RR6 on the 360 is virtually the same RR7 on the PS3 and VF5 is out on the 360 looking better and with additional online play.

Also neither Halo 3 or Fable 2 are confirmed for the PC (though I concede they'll probably be out sometime 2009/2010.)

And finally at the very best Blu-Ray will live along side HD-DVD; it won't be the winner, that boat has sailed.

Ridge Racer 7 was a selling point? Virtua Fighter 5 is also better on 360.
Personally I've never seen reliability as a major selling point of consoles. They are all pretty much the same, I've had many consoles fail in the past and it's easy enough to get them fixed.

As for Blu-Ray winning the war... I don't know. Without the PS3 would Blu-Ray players have sold as many numbers? I believe PS3's stand as the massive unit of BR players in homes. Before the PS3 it didn't do as well, where as HD-DVD primarily sell as seperate users. Personally I can't see either winning, I think they'll live side by side and also alongside standard DVD.

If reliability was an issue for me, then my history of Sony consoles would mean I wouldn't have gone near the PS3, but it doesn't bother me. I know if I want to play the best games I need the Xbox360. If I want to play Gran Turismo, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Metal Gear Solid I'll need a PS3 and Metroid Prime, Mario Galaxy and Zelda I need a Wii.

So I got them all.

I don't see it as a selling point for the PS3, I see it as a 'not buying point' for the 360. :p

For me, Still. I'm going to be buying a PS3. because of that particular problem.

I own neither console, But I have a friend who has had both for a long time, A jap PS3 since release and various 360s since release (4 to be exact ) I'm round his most days, So i believe I have had enough play time on both consoles to give a fair opinion.

My friends next move, in regards to the 360,Is if it fails again, He's going to try and blag an Elite Exchange, and pray he has more luck with that.

360's problem is a MASSIVE deterrent, When you've seen it first hand, 4 times lol. It has made me want to buy a PS3 over the 360. Because it's reliable! Yes, I know yours died, But i have to be honest, Yours is the only one I know of. I could go search out more I'm sure. But there's not a big enough problem for it to smack you in the face like 360 does.

As for games on both consoles. PS3 doesn't lack games, it lacks exclusives, The exclusives we are seeing are good though, Dirt is better on the PS3 than the 360, Which shows that when a port is done right it's brilliant, Darkness however, Which is a relatively new game, Is awful on PS3. I'm hoping that Dirt is the way of the future on PS3.

If i had to buy a console right now, I'd buy myself a PS3. Mainly because I'd rather wait for a 360 that's reliable, A refreshed version. The games on the PS3 are NO WHERE near as bad as people are making them out to be, Oblivion is an improvement in fact ( A game I really really enjoy ) And that's pretty old too. Like i said, Its down to the developers, Always will be.

Some of the older ports aren't as good as 360, but as said, It's hardly as bad as people are making out with all these "truths"

No real gamer could do without the 360, those that ain't got one or pick a PS3 over it really are not gamers at all and are just buying a brand name. :)
