I have 120Gb Slim PS3, but am finding when watching Bluray's that the noise from the drive is very loud, especially at the end of the film when you shut the PS3 down and realise the noise it has been making.

So I either have a noisy PS3 or this is standard.

If it is noisy and not as it should be, I have the option of upgrading it to a PS3 Super Slim. There isn't really a cost implication as it would use Game and pay £125 but get Assassins creed 3, Most Wanted and Fifa.

Any help?

Have you tried a lens cleaning disc? Might just be something simple. My 120GB Slim is near silent with bluray, well with everything.

I can hear the fan on my ps3 slim but it's not too noisy (I can't watch a film with the tv volume on low, late at night without particularly noticing if at all), bluray drive in it seems to be silent. Tolerances & models may vary, though I'm not a big fan of noisy electrical equipment at all.

I've read (from one review) that the bluray drive on the newer super slim models may be a bit noisier, think the reviewer speculated that the slimmer console had less 'shielding' around the bluray drive so could hear it eaiser.

A replaced disk drive usually is the source of the problem of excessive noise. That or you could have your console facing a direction where the vents are blocked, causing heat build up and therefore making the system fan work harder.

How old is your PS3? Was it bought used or new? And is it clean or in a well ventilated area?

Really shouldn't be noisy especially when it's just a blu-ray movie.

Well yeah it's an old school top loading design and it literately is just a thin sheet of plastic for the lid, so the louder noise wouldn't be much of a surprise. What need is there of a speculation. Reviewer sounds stupid. :p

firstly. do a fan test...
remove the power cable, hold eject button and re-insert power cable.. keep holding eject though.
the ps3 will beep, fans will go on full power for about 20 seconds, then it will stop amd give you 3 beeps. then just remove the power again. and put it back in..
this helps clear out all the dust accumulates in the system, which in turn, when the temp sensors read the temps r lower due to no dust, fans will run slower n quieter.
unfortunately u cant do this on the super slim..

and my super slim is golden silent.. i love it :-)
just hate the spring loaded sliding top cover. would be awesome if it was electric :-D
