PS3 aliasing question

I dunno whether I am just very picky but I have been playing Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted etc and, even though, apparently, they are supposed to be very well anti-aliased, I find that they still have jaggies.

I use a Dell 24" 2407WFP monitor with HDMI>DVI.
The games are playing at 720p and then being made fullscreen with aspect mode.

Could it be that, because the dell is a pc monitor and an ultrasharp panel, 720p games at fullscreen just do not look exceptional? If I stick the game in 1:1 mode it seems very sharp, but you can cover the picture with two hands on the screen so it could be that it's just small and condensed.

I'm tempted to buy a normal HDTV - something like a samsung 26" (any good?) - because I think it could be the fact I am not playing on a proper HDTV in the first place.

I had the same problems with the 360 over vga, too.

In summary, games seem:

1) aliased (jaggies)
2) blurred in the background (like out of focus and very blurred/jaggy in fullscreen - 1:1 is ok)

Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me if there is an actual 1080p game I can use to test? Preferably a game that uses anti-aliasing too :P ?

All the games I have tried are natively 720p.

I'm gonna go to town in the morning, too, and maybe I'll check what the ps3 looks like on the HDTV in the GAME store.

Can't you run it at 1080i at 1:1? That would solve your problems I think, as when using fill it doesn't just double the image to fit the screen because it's 1200 pixels tall, not 1080

I'll give it a shot now, but I am not confident in the monitors ability to display a 1080i signal. Also, I dunno whether it will make much of a differene for the jaggies because the original 720p image is still just being scaled larger.

Regards.

Nah. Doesn't work. The dell does not accept an interlaced signal - it just moans when the ps3 tries to output 1080i.

Maybe I am just being too paranoid. Maybe all 720 games have these problems on 1080p displays.

Hmm
