Hi all just a quick question, backwards compatibility for PS1, PS2 games is supported by PS3's, but only in models 60GB or 80GB? My gf's little bro is after one and says he has to buy it off an auction site because you cant get backwards compatible ones anymore? Lies, right?

not lies. 40gb's can play ps1 games, but not ps2. 80gb's over in the us can play ps2 games (ntsc though, not pal). there is no conformation if the upcomming uk 80gb ps3's will.

if he is spending over the odds, might jsut be easier to get a ps2 slim and a 40gb?

So do 60GB or 80GB ones come from the US then and dont support PAL PS2 games?

80gig

Basically you need a 2nd hand english 60gig, they tend to cost more than a brand new 40gig.

I would just buy a 40gig and a slimline PS2, would work out cheaper and the backwards compatibility on the 60gig still isn't perfect

60gb's arent being made anywhere now. 80gb's are currently us only and wont play anything pal, so no pal ps2 game,s no pal dvd's.

probably better value for money in some respects too - 40gb, while lacking ps2 b/c, will probably be quieter than the already quiet 60gb models as well as consuming less power than the old 60gb ones.

agreed:)

Thanks guys, i know its a no brainer to me as well. Managed to talk him down, can get a 40GB model with GTA for just under £305 since i work at a big supermarket chain. Cheers for the quick responses
