Since moving my gaming pc is still in storage but I found an unwanted Ps3 in box which belongs to my gf's son and was thinking of setting it up in the front room on a big telly.

How does this stand up nowadays?

Also can I connect to the Internet wirelessly or do I need a LAN cable?

I imagine I could get a few top titles for peanuts, are there and good in depth racing games involving lots of mods? Also are there are there any fps titles which still have servers running?

Thanks

Wireless works fine, there are plenty of games you can play. I’m just working through things like Resistance, Killzone, Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Infamous all trilogies. Plenty of hours.

Don't forget it will also play PS1 games, and if it's a certain version of the fat original models then it'll also play PS2 games. 19 years of gaming in one device

The original US model had full PS2 hardware inside, shame it's NTSC though. I think the European version was a mix of hardware and emulation so it wasn't as good.

GT5/GT6 are probably the obvious recommendations for racing.

Just solely going by exclusives and what I liked...

Yakuza 3 to 5, The Last of Us and Uncharted 1 to 3 (though no one likes the first one) were top exclusives that have been remastered on PS4 (and in Yakuza 3's case, has its removed content put back in).

Metal Gear Solid 4, Yakuza Dead Souls and Killzone 2 and 3 remain unremastered (though I didn't like Killzone 2).

Real obscure hidden gems are Tokyo Jungle and Starhawk.

It also itself has a lot of good remasters and ports in the store, like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and the two Zone of the Enders off the top of my head though presumably they're now on PS4 or elsewhere by now too

Having played the uncharted remastered games, we're remembering them through the lens of time. I don't think the mechanics aged very well... set pieces are still amazing, but the games themselves are not so fun any more.

Was it your first experience playing them, or had you already had that?

Yea, I bought them just before U4 was released and thought it didn't live up to the memory of them.

I recently recommended Uncharted 4 to a mate that had a naughty dog sized hole in his heart after finishing TLOU2 and was gagging for that type of game. He went and got 1-3 remastered and couldn't get into it for the same reasons I thought it was a let down.

Where's the best way to pick up some old PS3 Blu-rays these days (online)? The digital store prices for some of these titles are ridiculous.

I was going to buy a few through eBay, but regarding online games I've no idea how it would work trying to register a 2nd hand game, or indeed if console games need registering

I don't think games on PS3 had key codes or anything. But I meant buy online as opposed to second hand games shop (there are none by me). I didn't even think of fleaBay! Doh!

Ahh gotcha. Gran tourismo 6 looks like a good racing title, apparently it has the oval ring as an update and this is why I want the game. If I can simply pop a 2nd hand disc into the machine and update the game that'll be great!

I've found it on ebay for £25 new or £13 2nd hand. If the 2nd hand copy won't update then I'll end up buying it new which would mean £38 for a 7 year old game!
