Hey guys,

I'm going to be buying the new PS3 slim soon, and as stated in the title, it's going to be predominantly used for Blu-Ray films. For the price, is it still the best one you can buy?
Or has it slipped behind the times since it's release?

Thanks in advance :)

Haha, yeah, that is a nice perk ;)

Does the slim have PS2/PS1 compatibility too?

Yes there is a main thread about the PS3 slim, but my main question is regarding Blu-Ray, before anyone kicks off! :)

The slim won't have backwards compatibility the original PS3 did but has since been removed.

A £100-£150 Blu ray player will offer the same Picture/Sound Quality but longer loading times in general.

Depends if you will make use of the extra features if the extra £100-£150 is worth it.

Awesome, that's what i was hoping for, as i have a lot of old ps1 rpg's i still have somewhere like Suikoden :)

Does it allow PS1 games from oversea's or only UK?

Back on the Blu-Ray topic, would a PS2 DVD remote work with a PS3?

Ps2 remote will not work with the ps3 you would need to buy a ps3 bluetooth remote.

I recently got one of those. It's much nicer than fiddling with the controller, although I do think it has far too many buttons for the amount of functions that are actually available. Still, decent bit of kit.

It re-affirmed the fact that all remotes should be bluetooth or similar, rather than infrared. Not needing to point directly at the machine is a godsend!

What.. and stop me from playing "bounce the infrared off all the walls to control the box" game..

Don't like the sound of that.

I use a logitech harmony remote, there is no need to directly point it at your IR controlled equipment.

And I've picked up several early Xmas pressies, Sharp BR standalones for £58.. they take 30 seconds or so to load a BR, but the PQ and upscaling DVD qualities are first rate, even sends full bitstreams over HDMI..

So £250 for just a BR player would seem extreme, but obviously as a BR/Console it's much better VFM.
