Hello,

I was watching Planet Earth on my *PS3 (*still under warrentee) last night, and everthing was fine. I also played a game just before that.

Tonight, about 2 hours ago, i turned it on and put a game in (F1 championship), and the game/auto play etc didn't work. So I put Planet Earth (Blue ray) on, but stiil , nothing happened. So now, when I put a Disk in, its as if nothing is inserted at all - nothing. Not sure what the problem could be, as its not been mistreated (until last night I don't think it's been on for 2 months)

I have done a System reset (not a format (yet) but the BD Disk doesn't seem to be responding. All the rest of the PS3 is ok though, with game demos working fine.

Is this a"common" fault? - maybe the Blue-ray reader part of the PS3 is just broke.......

TIA for replies

I had the exact same problem.

I think there was a problem with ps3's sold around christmas time with a lot of blu-ray drives failing.

Phoned up Sony and they were very good about it.

Thanks for reply.

Can't find my receipt ATM:( Anyway, was wondering if I can actuallly take it back to the pc shop - rather than Contact sony. (do you have to fill the warrrentee card/documents in?, because I haven't

Ok, Cheers.

Not sure about taking it back to the shop you bought it from but when I called Sony I don't think they asked for a receipt as they can tell how old the console is by the serial number.

Another one bites the dust.

Shuddup before I get on stage and push you into a 10000 watt peavey MR Gallagher;)

Well, I just did a full Format, (was a last resort, lots of data gone) but , it works now!, so it must have been some mix up between Hard Disk and the system as a whole, as you can't "Mend" a blue ray disk by formatting a drive.

Now were was I, oh yes, re-registering my Blue ray Remote:p

Nice to hear it's now working again!!

Just for future reference you don't need your reciept when getting a replacement from Sony, and the service is excellent with a new console being delivered to your door usually a couple of days after contacting Sony.

It is one aspect of the PS3 that is less then stellar, it seems to function more like a PC then any other console I've known, re-formatting seems to fix many peoples issues..

Glad you fixed it, out of 20 or so owners I know, only 2 have had issues, which is pretty good.. (compared to 3RROD that is)
