my ps3 has developed a issue where it cuts out and loses power.

its 18 months old isnt there some eu directive to cover goods for 2 years from the place of purchase?

Im aware of soga but not sure how far id get with this.

Otherwise it looks like a repair or replacement.

Any advice?

Does a yellow light come on and when you try to fire it up it starts beeping? If so this is a porcessor or graphics issue and I have had sucess with the heat gun on these. Otherwise the psu on these machines it very simple to get at and replace.

no lights or any warning just dead. if you unplug it the standby light will come on again and the machine will work again.

Certainly sounds like a psu issue.

Have a go with the retailers 1st. If you don't succeed have a go at repairing it yourself? Loads of guides on YouTube.

had the same problem 2 months ago with a 2 days old replacement unit, so i phoned sony up and had it replaced, the bloke over the phone was unable to identify the problem. one thing i noticed was that PS3 was way too hot when switches off, i was ****ed since it was only 2 days old replcement unit forget abt the purchased unit
