Looking to buy a PS3 after xmas. Is there any difference between the 40gb and 80gb? Also, how much can you pick them up for now?

About 40gig difference! There is no difference with the models at all.

Shop around after Christmas in the January/ Boxing Day sales you will probably be able to pick one up for around £250.

Best bet is the 160GB, think its the best deal around to be honest 160GB PS3 with 4 PSNgames, GT5P, Super Stardust HD, The Last Guy and Ratchet and clank quest for booty. The RRP is £340 in most places i have seen so its only £40 than the 80 with twice the HDD size and over £40 worth of PSN games. If price is an issue then wait till xmas as i think any of the old 40GBs will be sold off at a cheaper price.

If you're due a phone contract upgrade perhaps cancel and take out a contract with a free ps3 80gb!!

But it isn't free as you pay a premium every month for the subscription.

AFAIK the only difference between models is the harddisk size, if you intend to download a lot of demo's and use the PS3 for MP3's and videos get a bigger drive.

Also looking at a bundle might save you compared to buying the games separately.

It's a shame the PS2 games don't work on the other models as I have a large collection of games.

I only mentioned the 60gb is it's worth looking out for preowned ones. I told the shop where I go that I wanted the 60Gb model and they phoned around different stores under the same chain until they got one for me. It cost me £275 which I didn't think it was a bad price seen is the 60Gb is in high demand and the fact they aren't made any more. I hope the last owner didn't register it has if I'm then first I may get no questions asked for receipt if something fails on it. As it'll look like it was a new purchase. :D

yes the phone contract ISNT free however, if you were planning on a £35 p/m contract then you can get a free ps3 with it...so thats my logic in it. There are loads of people who take out contracts without free gift offers etc. And these make the deal so much worthwhile.

Yea, as stated, no difference save the disk space.

If you're debating which one to get, I'd go with the 160Gb one, despite the extra cost. My friend has one with a lower sized hardrive (can't remember which) and he says that the games take up loads of space.

imo, no it isnt worth it. id rather have a newer 80gb console with warranty that uses less power and runs cooler. If i wanted to play ps2 games at that point, then id buy a ps2. and no, they dont play all games perfectly:p

Anyway, the only thing stopping me selling my 60gb and buying a newer console is the sacd support. It'd cost me far to much to buy a standalone player to make it viable.

I bought a 60GB from MM for £270 delivered. Having the PS2 compatibility is very handy. Are there any other differences between the 60gb and the new 40gb/80gb?
