Down under mate!
Ok as the Title says I now own a loverly black shiney PS3 :D and would like to use it on line.I have my PC connected via Virgin(ntl) cable modem is it as easy as plugging my cable modem into the PS3???

Also I tried to play a dvd last night but could only get it to play at 576p res instead of 720p/1080i as set up in the PS3 setup.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong.

Thundy.

its as easy as plugging the cable in yes :)

as for the dvd thing im not sure , just check all the settings , someone should be able to help you out though

edit - ahh i assume you havent got the updates since you havent been online ? the latest updates make it allot easier to tell it to upscale dvds and ps2 games etc

Easiest way would be getting a wireless router and connecting your PC in via cable (as it is) and your PS3 already has wireless built into it.

DVD will be native at 576p. Have you used the DVD upscaling feature? You might need to upgrade your firmware to get this.

Hi I bought Rainbow Six Las vagas when I put the disk in it upgraded the firmware to 1.51 I think.

Upscaling is from FW 1.82 IIRC. Connected your console to the Internet and select system update. Job Done. :)

Do I need to power off my cable modem before connecting to the ps3?

Just download the update to a USB stick or SD Card and install it locally :). I find it much quicker.

Ok have just downloaded version 1.9 and put it on my memory stick do I just plug it in and does the ps3 spot the file and install?

PSN = PlayStation Network - it's Sony's answer to XBox Live! Looking back up this thread it appears you dont have any way to share your internet connection between your PC and PS3 :( I would advise getting a router (Linksys WRT54GL would do just fine!) so you can share your connection and play online, it also means you can use the PSN Store to download demos, videos and full games :)

Edit: Totally forgot to answer your question, its been a long day. The PSN ID is your nickname on the Playstation Network.

I tried to register last night but it just sat on the logging on screen for ages :(

After reading this thread i've just installed ver 1.90 via a usb drive.

Looking at PS3 website it shows the dvd upscaler to be on version 1.80.

Played a movie and it looks no different.

Should I install 1.80 over the 1.90 and THEN the 1.90 again for the upscailer update ?.

Complete noob here, sorry.
